so why do their competitors dislike hamilton / maclaren

Lets face it - other Brit drivers and teams dont get the dislike from their peers that Hamilton and Maclaren do. Easy to say thats just because they are doing well, but that hasnt been the case in the past. Never before have I heard one competitor say (as Alonso has done) that he would try to prevent another getting the title.

Is it because Maclaren cheated and got caught. Is it because Hamilton is over competitive or is it because he is black? What do you think?

I do not believe any are jealous of him. I just think they don't like him because he is a bit of an arse.

For me the main reason is the way ITV and other parts of the media are constantly fawning over him. Makes me sick just thinking about the way they act as if he is the greatest driver of all time. He is also the flukiest driver i have ever seen, always gets out of sticky situations smelling of roses. Makes him hard to want to win even though he doesnt seem like a bad bloke himself. Same cant be said of Ron Dennis and Hamilton Snr who i despise for being a pair of smug grinning tosspots.

Cant comment on Hamilton senior, but Ron Dennis is a real achiever whether you like him or not. Got to admire what he's done.

That's what competition is all about.
But this is a particularly 'British' disease I think. We prefer a hard-trying underdog.
... and if the media get hold of you to up their circulation, then you will be demolished from every angle.

A "fluke" is when someone benefits unexpectedly from an occurence outside his control.

- 'ring: I was referring to when his wheel came off because the gun had malfunctioned. This caused him to start from 10th on the grid, and destroyed his race
- China: He was following instructions from the team. How often will tyres be good enough to do racing laps but fail a few seconds later at half-speed in the pit lane?
- Brazil: You seem to have forgotten the race. He did not retire, but his gear selection system malfunctioned, which cost him 25 seconds, and the WDC.
- Canada: If you can demonstrate that it is common for someone who is leading a race to destroy his own car in the pit lane, you must be familiar with a different racing history to the one I know.
- Spa: No, legitimate racing move unfairly penalised by corrupt stewards.
- Monza: Poor qualifying result owing to engineer's wrong tyre choice. Even after starting 15th, he was on for a win until predicted heavy rain went slightly wide of circuit.
- Japan: Race ruined by being spun out by Massa, and then Massa's being rewarded a point for crashing into an innocent Bourdais.

I'm not suggesting that Hamilton has not had his fair share of good luck - far from it. It seems to me that he's had his fair share of both good and bad luck, as can be said for most other drivers: the Law of Large Numbers and all that.
As the examples above demonstrate, however, the notion that Hamilton is "the flukiest driver" who "always gets out of sticky situations smelling of roses" is just more pure, one-sided nonsense typical of people who appear to prefer talking to thinking.
