why is this non championship?

The previous round had contractual 'last round' status - as you can imagine a venue would pay more for this. Surfers had a contractual date and I guess if they had last round status it would be for a defunct championship.

Probably helped that Tony George could effectively get another hollow victory in for his series.

I really dislike tony george, hes ended up with a devalued version of what he set out to destroy in the first place. Idiot.
