Centre Lock Hubs

Does anyone have any experience with these? Pro's and con's??

Pro: there is only one: its quicker to change wheels in races where pit stops are a feature

Cons: requires specialist hubs with drive pegs and 'large nut'. Requires specialist equipment to use - Paoli air guns at >£1.2k each, you'll need 2, one left handed, one right handed. Requires air supply for said air guns - either bottled gasses e.g. from BoC, or diving bottles. If using dive bottles you'll need a specialist compressor to recharge them - another £1.5k. Add that to the bottle you need for the air jacks and yo might end up needing a bigger truck.

You'll also need several sets of new wheels....

I've seen a race team have 2 large Torque wrench's with big sockets on them to remove there center hubs, so could be done cheaply you would loose some speed though.

That's true - some of the Porsche Carrera cup guys use the seriously large wrenches. They don't need the guns as a tyre stop in that type of sprint race will cost them the race anyway, regardless of guns or wrenches.

Mike, I do have some Cerbera centre lock alloys here if you need some, they're RL7 wheels from memory and we ran them on the Cerby GT car a few years ago.

Mike - I don't have them on mine.

I would like to do it and at the same time change the front and rear uprights to accomodate larger diameter hub shafts, stub axles at the rear and wheel bearings all round.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll get any change from £16,000 from this, new wheels and equipment, the economy is on its arse and sponsorship which has always been difficult is now nigh on impossible.

So for the time being I will stick to the cordless electric impact guns and 5 nuts per wheel

You can get normal studs that are designed for use with wheel nut guns and fast changes, they have a tapered nose on them to seat the nut without stripping them. a kind of half way house from normal 5 stud and centerlock..
