Really stupid looking rear wings.
The rear wing is narrower but the top of it now has to be level with the top of the airbox.
Edited to add picture of Williams testing a 2009 aero package. It's not a complete 2009 aero package though - note the bargeboards are still in place, as well as groovy tyres.

Rear wings will be smaller, apparently they look silly, a bit too small. The driver will be able to adjust the front wing up to 6 degrees from the steering wheel, but only two adjustments are allowed per lap. They will be able to pit during a safety car too.
being able to adjust the front wing is an interesting option - but why give it, then limit it?surely you can adjust it or not - shame they are limiting to two per lap isn't great. I presume its for safety reasons?
edited to say , DOH - they will limit it to two moves per lap to allow favoured teams the option to move it more without penalty.........silly me

ah, is it just a 2008 with the devil horns and nose winglets etc lopped off?Edited by Teppic on Monday 3rd November 20:11
Changes for 2009:-
Changes to the bodywork removal of winglets and barge boards, the vehicle weight and tyre size.
A "Kinetic Energy Recovery System", or KERS. Regenerative energy system taking energy from braking and through flywheel or capacitor proving a boost of power for the drivers use as and when they want it.
Slick tyres will be back for 2009.
A cap on team budgets starting in 2009.
Section 3.18 of the technical regulations contains details of "driver adjustable bodywork". The angle of incidence of elements in a defined area forward of the front wheels can be varied by up to 6 degrees and adjusted by direct driver input. A maximum of 2 adjustments can be made on any lap.

It means no more horns, no more winglets, no more bridges over the nose, IIRC no more barge boards, etc..... a clean shape.
The higher narrower rear wing "should" permit cars to run closer to each other, but while they still have the stepped floor, I can't see it happening.
At least the canned the idea of the "Centre Downwash" rear wing.

Hopefully the new package will make F1 car a bit more like GP2 cars, which are far more interesting to watch.

This reminds me a lot of the A1GP boost system.A "Kinetic Energy Recovery System", or KERS. Regenerative energy system taking energy from braking and through flywheel or capacitor proving a boost of power for the drivers use as and when they want it.
Why not (for example) just put an 18k rpm limit in the ECU, then when you want a 'boost', press a button and the ECU allows the engine to reach 19k rpm for 10 seconds.

Totally half-hearted, IMHO.
If they really wanted to go green, they should cut the max RPM down to 16k, and make the teams build hybrid engines on top. That will actually help the development of hybrid engines for future road cars. KERS doesn't contribute anything.
