Speed limiters

According to Autosport today Maxwell has decreed that WRC cars should have maximum speed limiters on them for your convenience for safety. FFS! less power, less speed.. max i think you have forgotten what motor sport is all about!

The cars are geared low anyway, I don't think they are geared for more than 130mph even on Rally Finland. And most of the accidents happen way below the maximum speed anyway.
Also might be an issue if a car is driving on the limiter, it's not accelerating or decelerating so maybe not so stable.

The whole point of the WRC regs was to allow car makers to enter a competitive car without having to produce a road car version of it like in the old Group A days. So we got cars like the Focus, C4 and Octavia by car companies that have no AWD car in their line up being run alongside the Impreza and Lancer Evo.
Reading that item it looks like they are going back on this and now want the cars to just consist of a production car with a few kit bits bolted on, so you will be back to homologation specials or specialist manufacturers only being competitive.
When will they get it into their heads they need to make the series more value for the car makers in terms of exposure and take it away from the sprint format, back to what rallying used to be about, where there was a story to be told. That will bring the teams back and the PR value back, it's a shambles at the moment, it doesn't know what it's for.
