I think this is just one of the ways Max gets his way.

He wants a change so he proposes something much much further and more extreme than he really wants. He knows that you will never agree to this and it makes it easyer to force his less extreme (but equally daft) ideas into the rules.

For example

Max "I will pay you €1000 if you beat me with this baseball bat and then douse me with boiling water"

Eastern European Girl "No way, im not into that"

Max " ok, I suppose you can just whip me instead"

Eastern European Girl "do I still get €1000"

Max "sure"

I don't think Max is that subtle. He's never had to be in the past. He's just stated what he wanted to do then done it. No negotiation, no compromise, no concern for anyone else's concern. Look at the way he dealt with his complete rejection of the concord agreement when it got in his way. The teams objected, he went ahead anyway.

In the past he's been able to get away with it because there has been no organisation to stand in his way. Now there is FOTA and it means business. The choice of Monte as the front man is a stroke of genius. I can't believe that he will get away with such heavy-handedness in the future, if there is a future for F1.

Max's single-engine formula is an attack on the manufacturers. The financial crisis means that they will cut their costs regardless of what Mosley wants. The suggestion that BMW might be re-entering F1 was obviously pie-in-the-sky. They'll be lucky to be entering the motor shows.

But the manufacturers will want to stay in F1 in exactly the same way they were before: paying as much as they can afford. The oly difference is that for 2009 it will generally be a lot less than 2008. A single engined formula - Formula Ford/Audi/Renault on low dosage steriods is no good to them. Or us come to that.

Not that we've got any circuits left for them to race on.

The only way to stop these crazy ideas being put forward to kill of F1 completely is for the wealthy midget to have a heart attack and die and for Max 'the spank' Moseley to follow suit.

We could then have Jackie Stewart as FIA president and Flav could step sideways from Renault and look after F1's business and more importantly F1's fans concerns.

Would be interesting to see what those two bods could weave into the carbon fabric of F1...
