Hi all. Throwing myself onto the mercy of the PH collective, I urgently need a link to some high quality images of said accident or a least some good quality screen grabs.

Any help much appreciated, thanks in advance

Always thought - if only he had poottled back to the pits REALLY slowy and had the wishbone changed.

Or if not stuck one on Schumacher - that is what we need in Motorsport!

or if he had not made the bravest of brave lunges at an almost impossible overtaking place at the first sniff of a chance... cant decide whether this incident was Hill's lack of racecraft or pure racing instinct? should he have held off having come across a slower than usual schumacher or did he do the only sensible option and take a chance when it presented itself?...

Yep very true too.

I was at the race and I'm fairly sure I remember Hill pootling back to the pits, only to retire. There must have been more damage.

I was sitting on Brabham Straight so I didn't exactly see him get to the pits, but that's about half way around the track with the damage.
Someone will chime in soon I'm sure smile

Yip he made it back..remember the williams mechanic almost in tears, yanking at the knackered wishbone.....

A very cynical move by the German.....He tried it again against Villenueve and it didn't work....

If someone is apparently that talented, why do they need to 'cheat'....same thing goes with these so called talented footballers....diving and cheating all over the pitch, they surely cannot be that 'great' if they find the desire to cheat??

IIRC it was just the snapped wishbone but it would have taken too long to replace it. Perhaps the mountings were also broken.

Oh and F1 Racing drivers wouldn't be F1 racing drivers if they didn't go for every opportunity with a sniff of a chance. DH didn't realise that Schueys car had previously hit the wall and was damaged.

There was no sniff of anything on that particular slow corner complex...

Hill was on it...much quicker than the German....

Cynical move...he knew what he was doing.

It's never popular on here, but I disagree with you.

I think with Hill, MS was desperately trying to get back to cover the racing line to stop DH coming through. At the same time, DH saw a narrowing gap and threw his car into it - with hindsight, he should have waited and driven round the stricken Benetton, but at the time he saw it as an opportunity to win the championship, so I don't think we can really blame him. At best, it was 50:50.

With Villeneuve, MS deliberately drove into him - no argument there.

Nah
Hill in this particular race was blinding! He was very very fast against Schumacher...

How anyone can say it was 50:50 is staggering!!

The wry grin on the Germans face a few minutes later all but confirmed it was deliberate...they say a picture paints a thousand words....and you dont need a Phd in body language to know exactly that his cynical move worked!

Hill was NOT desperate, if you look how quick he was all over that particular weekend.....During the race he was mega (for me one of his best) quick....

However top marks to the German for quick thinking! it worked and handed him the championship....

Looking back at it now on YT I must admit to changing my mind. I've always thought it was 100% Schumachers fault...now...no, it's not. There isn't actually really a gap, either before or after Schumacher closes the door. Nothing like as clear cut as the Villeneuve incident.

if hill was that quick "all weekend" why was he behind schumacher at the time in question?

To be honest, I cannot remember!

German had crashed...he knew he was out....and he cynically turned back into Hill... END OF

Age and time have mellowed my jingoism in relation to this incident.

I am of the view that Hill came accorss MS, not expecting to do so and, with everything on offer and at stake, and not knowing the German's race was run, went for the very slim gap.

It was a racer's decision. Hill had no idea that MS's car was FUBAR'd, all he knew was that it had slowed. Imagine what would have happened if it had done so as a result of just over cooking it a little, with no damage (which Hill might very likely have thought), and Hill hadn't made the move...

He was able to make it back to the pits, as stated by others, and it was damage to the mounting points which rulled out changing the bent suspension arm.

As far as MS's part in the incident was concerned i think it was a little bit of him being naughty and natural reaction. Think about when you've been in a similar situation when karting, we have all gone wide and been a touch forceful in defending our position whilst getting back up to speed I am sure!

It was not as blatant as some of MS's moves but certainly set the scene for the future and made 100% sure everyone out there knew they had to double think any move they considered pulling on him for the rest of his days in F1.

It was Mansell who was the quick Williams that weekend. Pole position and thanks to that collision the win as well.

If Nige had been in that 94 car all year he would have beaten Schumacher fair and square - even with all the Germans lost races (taken away for various reasons!).
