F1 2009 Engine rules

According to the Ferrari top brass, it's not one engine per 2 races, but 8 engines for the entire season:

So this means no more dropping off at the end of most of the races to conserve engine power? Or might they have 4 engines for practice/quali and 4 engines for the actual races?

seems like a good idea to me but does raise a few issues but also allows more racing imo whilst keeping costs lower compared to the 2 race rule. however without knowing how many of the parts within the engine are allowed to be replaced (refurbed) between races its still clear as mud with wether they are racing in effect with a new engine each race.

Shame. I would like to see *racing* to the end, not just cruising to save the engine.

Also means you can run new engine at say Monza where its tough.

I guess you get a penalty if you need a 9th engine

yep that's right as i understand it, only get a penalty if you go to a 9th engine, but it appears that you can choose when to run your 8 engines.

i'd imagine that you have to keep the same engine saturday - sunday tho, would be very surprised if you could have a qualifying engine and a different race engine (although it's what is being said on some websites)

the FIA would like use the same 'sealing' method that they do now to ensure that the engines aren't tampered with between races.

Thing is, this has come from one sentence from domenicali - this is clearly not the extent of the new engine rules! i'd wait for the rules to come out from the FIA rather than domenicali...
