Cost to do Britcar 500
Discussion
Hi i run a 997 cup car in porshe open here in ireland and was wondering what sort of costs apart from entry fees which sound very expensive would i be looking at to do the britcar 500 with my own car and also how many drivers could share the car Also what would it cost to arrive and drive with one of the regular britcar teams in a 997 cup car with say a 3/4 driver team
As mentioned in the "Who is in, who is out" thread, the main problem with 6 hrs is that it's difficult to attract extra drivers for such short periods of racing. Take us as an example (I appreciate it's a very different car) but its a one stopper for us - we're a 2 driver team so we don't have an option to bring anyone in.

For costs on a 997 it very much depends on the hours your car will have already done before the meeting and will have done by the end with regard to drive shafts, engine, gearbox etc. Bank on adding about 7 hours to your run time plus testing hours.
I recon 4 sets of tyres should do you for the weekend in a Cup car not sure on fuel.
As for drivers well frankly if I was doing it I'd suggest 2 drivers. 3 can be done but one of you will get short changed significantly so bare that in mind on budget talks.
Ultimately unless you have a mate you wants to do the race with for whatever reason, your best off hiring a ride in someone elseses car.

Fuel - wise you`ll do somewhere around 700 litres over the weekend I`d imagine. Driver-wise don`t forget it`s refuelling with churns so probably 45 minute stints in a 911 cup car plus what ever you use from the initial fill. Our 996 runs on thin air, we have a 110 litre bag tank and we get something like 1.45 out of that. so you can work out driver / tyre swaps accordingly. We tried to double stint a set of tyres in the last 24 hr we did and it wasn`t successful. I`d say your`re looking at tyres every 2nd fuel stop off the churns. A set of wets, possibly a couple of sets to see you through practice and qualifying, (remember there are 2 qualifying sessions - a day and a night time). I recon 4 sets of tyres should do you for the weekend in a Cup car not sure on fuel.

Car prep-wise it`s a tricky one. You either spend less on the car and if it fails during the race accept that you hadn`t spent a fortune on prep or you treat it as a 24 hour race, certainly from a chassis point of view. Driveshafts are £2-3k and you`ll need a set, suspension bits and damper overhaul would be good.
Team - wise it depends on the time table but if there needs to be night time qualifying that will have to be done on Friday so possibly arrive Wed, test Thurs, qualify Fri, race Sat, pack up Sun. Probably 4 days plus travel for the team.
Hope that gives some insight.
As has been suggested already it`s a fine line between saving money and limiting potential income from drivers so you`ll need to do the sums.

I wish i'd not atarted looking at this now !!! The Spa 12 btcs race is 2500euro entry and its in June !! Even with the awful exchange rate that is very good value for money. If you do the whole series and pay by 27 March its £5900euro (if my French translation is correct !!)
Yep, and it's a brilliant series. Big grids (50+ at all races), friendly atmosphere, cheap and races at three great tracks (Spa, Dijon, Zolder). I've been involved there for 3 years now and really enjoy it. For us it's great being the only British team too (apart from Strakka at the 12-hour), because they love it that we're out there. We've been running a Clio in Belgium this year and those guys know how to go racing and how to enjoy it for a limited budget - Europe is far more sensible in many ways than the UK - its a shame but it seems to be the case at the moment. Lets hope that we see some more sensible value coming back into british racing. YOu get great crowds, great grids and zero tolerance on contact.
