The estate was a nice novelty, but didn't do much, even with Rydell and Lammers at the wheel. The following year's saloon was far superior, if less marketable. The BTCC needs manufacurers like Volvo. What is the nature of the program? Is it a full works effort or privateer? Who's running it?

Oh good grief, plato in a volvo!!! That sounds about as likely as matt neal bringing a pristine car back to the pits! Mind you, i hope its true, btcc needs more manufacturers!

Would love to have Volvo back in and Plato as well. Volvo are forever in my memory after seeing Kelvin Burt's horrendous accident in the 1996(?) BTCC. He never seemed quite the same afterwards.

I wondered what Plato was going to drive this year, with a Volvo, BMW, SEAT, Ford, and Vauxhall on the grid it might start looking like a touring car championship again. Obviously most will be private teams but that might stop some of the ram-raid tactics.

Also, will the MGs be back again this year?

I think there are rules now that state you cant use an estate vehicle now, i was reading something about the big Volvo Estate a little while back. It was a brilliant novelty, especially with the dog in the back (anyone remember that?!).

Chances are like someone else said it'll be a C30 Bio-Ethanol.

I was sat at Knickerbrook that day - I think it was 1995, but I could be wrong. It was a dire, dire accident. Oulton moved quickly and the barriers there have improved considerably. It's a bottleneck down there into Cascades, although standing on the infield at Dentons watching Martin Stretton through there in his March 712 teetering on the brink is just extraordinary.

Didn't Volvo also argue that the estate was a little faster in a straight line due to aerodynamics?

I seem to remember that the estate was faster due to aerodynamics, but the following year they changed the rules about spoilers and what could be used, so it then made sense to have a saloon with big spoilers.

I think it had it's day.

I just want the new season to start. Rally Ireland will do for a slight hit this weekend. But I want my ITV4 afternoon of motorsport back.... (Are they going to be doing that again this year? Was excellent. Watch a bit, mow the lawn while Porche race was on, watch some more... Ahhh summer)

i was told once that there was a underground shelter at riches (where the rydell clip is) someone when off there and the car shot down the stairs and got stuck, the driver couldnt get out as neither door would open.

how true this is i dont know, but it always makes me smile!
