F1 - The futures blight
Discussion
So where do we go from here? I've pretty much given up on the whole F1 'competition'.
I'll watch the racing and glory in those drivers who show courage, skill and have the determination and heart to get passed the chequered flag first but as to the circus that follows the flag drop, I'll pass thanks very much.
I'll take my own conclusions from a race weekend and probably keep my own tally without the usual politics that follows. I think I and 99% of those who follow F1 are in a better position to judge the winners and losers after a race weekend than the officials.
So my champion this year will be based on the real results and not the fabricated nonsense the FIA are once again engineering. My winning driver may not raise the trophy at the end of the season but I'll know who the real champion is.
It's quite upsetting to be truthful, I thought the rot that had infected F1 had gone but I'm afraid there is still a strong smell in the air and unfortunately it stinks.

I'm keeping a spreadsheet on my pc with the 'real' results.
So far this is how it stands.
Button - 10
Barrichello - 8
Trulli - 6
Hamilton - 5
Glock - 4
Alonso - 3
Rosberg - 2
Buemi - 1
I'll be taking the result as how the cars cross the line, ignoring petty stewards decisions and manipulation of the results.
It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top, but however, it will be accurate in comparison to the lottery system that the FIA have adopted.

Not having a go at the OP as i am as bad but therein lies the problem.I'll watch the racing and glory in those drivers who show courage, skill and have the determination and heart to get passed the chequered flag first but as to the circus that follows the flag drop, I'll pass thanks very much.

I will keep watching even though i think its all a farcical farce.
I swore blind i was done with F1, wasn't going to watch another race etc etc after Spa last year but there i was the following Sunday watching it all over again at Monza

Probably an old fashioned view but the sport won't drastically change until the viewing numbers drop, simple as that imho.
I'm tempted to stick a sign on the TV saying "keep watching F1, keep rotting F1" but i doubt it will do much good

i started taking an interest in f1 again near the end of 2007, and followed the 08 season, after giving up on it in 99, but after seeing all the politics that now goes on, im not sure whether i can be bothered to follow it or get back into it anymore. i suppose it doesnt help that mclaren are releasing a road car to rival the ferrari, and may soon take sales away.

I'm already thinking of some banners for the British GP that I already made the mistake of buying tickets for.
They're not going to be particularly establishment friendly... and they're not going to be hanging over a barrier anywhere near where I will be.
Seriously, I think these are one of the best voices the people can have, as they get on international TV. Spread the word, the more the merrier... and better voiced! But the more accurate and less abusive the more likely they will be listened to and get on TV.
Racist banners by Spaniards should be the last of MM's and BE's worries...

Hamilton 'may' have cheated the investigation, but based on performance, that's how it should have finished IMO.

The sad part is there were so many converts for this season. I've been a keen follower for many years though not a fanatic. With all the hype on the BBC over the last few weeks and months I know loads of people who took a keen interest in the build-up to the first race of the season.
It'll be interesting to see how many of them bother to tune in for the second after this farcical debacle.

Let's face it, many of us are deeply unhappy with the continued meddling of pervy Max, and the FIA, but here are a couple of thoughts :
1) If I choose to stop watchng F1, the only person who really suffers is me.
2) Whilst I am a big LH fan, in this case I feel that he and McLaren are the architects of their own downfall. Yet again they've totally mismanaged a situation, and dragged their name through the mud. Bottom line is that they told LH to let JT back by when the didn't need to, and then having realised theri mistake, tried to mislead the stewards into penalising him. An act that would have been completely unnecessary if they knew the rules in the first place. They took a legitimate third place, turned it into fourth, and then tried to cheat to get it back. They are incompetent idiots, and deserve this punishment.

F1 is hardly a 'Sport' is it?
Appeal, counter appeal, court cases galore, results changing on a daily basis, its quite clear that the 'Rules' are somewhat misty and or badly interpreted.
Inconsistant penalties, how come Barichello wasn't penalised? The outcome would have been so different if that was 'another' driver.
Total debacle.

Depends why you stop. If you do so in protest but still actually enjoy watching the race, then yeah, you'll suffer but will also not accomplish anything productive. If you stop watching because you get halfway through a race, realise that it's same old s
t different track, realise that actually you simply aren't enjoying this, realise that it's lap 50 and you have no idea who is leading but have enjoyed 4 chapters of a novel, or woken up from an involuntary nap, noticed the race is over and realise you don't really care what the results were, then stopping watching actually allows you to do something interesting. The FIA seem to think that the key to getting more viewing figures is more excitement (read more overtaking) on the track. They keep changing the cars and the rules to try to encourage this. What they don't seem to realise is that there's no point having lots of overtaking when the final results are deciding in a small room 4 days later. The drivers may as well leave their cars in the pits and spend the afternoon wandering around the grandstand signing autographs.
If I wanted to watch an engineered championship I'd watch professional wrestling or horse racing. If I wanted the suspense and drama of the courtroom I'd watch LA Law reruns. None of these have any interest for me, hence I currently have no interest in F1 racing. The problem is, this really upsets me as it used to be my favourite sport, and I really wish it still was. I want to sit down once every couple of weeks and enjoy a good F1 race, have the suspense of the drivers fighting to take an opportunist race win, or maximise their championship chances. For that to happen the championship has to actually mean something, to have some relevance to what happens on track. The last two years it has been so blatantly manufactured that to me it has lost all validity. Without that, if I want some suspense on a GP weekend, I'm better off reading a book.

And if say Ferrari score a 1-2 but are found to have an illegal rear wing?So far this is how it stands.

However, if a team, ANY team has blatantly cheated to enhance performance then that will obviously be treated differently.
Funny how you mention such a team as Ferrari to be in those circumstances....anyone for a Malaysia '99 flavoured investigation?
