Branson is just a sponsor. Why is his opinion anything to do with the racing? I haven't noticed the chairman of Vodaphone discussing Hamiltongate.

The Virgin brand will now be linked to F1. If F1 becomes a laughing stock then companies associated with it will to. The reason they clamp down on items such as lying is because no sponsor wants to be associated with a dishonest sport. (whether Hamilton lied or not is another argument for another thread)

After watching every race for more years than I can remember, I've finally decided not to watch this weekends. Watching who crosses the line first as a result of the best car, driver and tactics is now a waste of time. It's more relevant to watch the papers on Monday morning to find out who the winner is.

Well Ferrari screwed up in quali 1. Massa out.

I guess if the teams and drivers are willing to do anything to win it is inevitable that it becomes a legal battle to try and enforce the rules. Cheating becomes endemic- rather like society as a whole it would seem.

I have enjoyed motorsport since the 60's and it has become a very different animal since then.

I think Gilette should sponsor F1 generally - more beards than at a freakin Morgan owners club meeting!

Cheating has been rife F1 since the 1960s, maybe even before when checks were far less common. Water bottle ballast, fake wings, bigger tyres, lightweight materials, fuels that could melt lead and many many more. It's just been a lot easier to find people out in recent years.

I suppose the question is whether you think teams should be brought to book or not. Personally I think they are right to investigate and enforce the rules even if it is during the week following the race.
