Shelsley Walsh and Prescott

Which is the better track for spectating, Shelsley Walsh or Prescott?

Prescott, but Shelsley has loads of character.

This Sunday is a prime chance to investigate Prescott. Which I would agree is a better spectator venue. But do visit Shelsley sometime.

Prescott is more spectator friendly, shelsley suits mountain goats or those with one leg a little longer than the other , but i cant call it. watching some nutter doing 145mph into bottom Ess on a track lined with earth banks and thinly hidden railawy sleepers on a tarmac not much wider than the car itself at Shelsley can be electrifying and worth the walk up the hill. Has a feeling of years gone by in the cramped paddock too. Prescott is like motor racing in a nice country park setting with good grub and bar, you can see a lot of action from most standpoints too. Great facilities.

Agree with Shelsley having bags of character - used to live almost next door. The facilities are supposed to be being upgraded especially in the pits. Even now the bar is good with a big screen to watch the cars going up the hill. Sit at the bottom 's' for the top 12 run off - awesome spectacle.

Prescott if you're taking the Mrs and want to be allowed to go again.

A little easier to get to, too; the drive to Shelsley from the motorway is a pain.

Thanks for the replies. Both of them are quite a trip so accessibility isn't a major consideration. I'm thinking more about actually being able to see the track and that sort of stuff so it seems like Prescott would be better. Are you able to go into the paddock (is there even a paddock at hillclimbs)? Anything else I should know about before going?

You can go everywhere except actually onto the course proper.

Tbh, both are superb, i wouldn't worry too much about choosing. I would say choosing the event is more important than the venue. The VSCC meets are brilliant, and i can highly recommend the Shelsley 'big' annual events (not sure what they call them now, there's one a year) when you get a terrific mix of machinery.

Shelsley is quite a hike to get up to the Esses, but the view across the valley (of the countryside) must be one of Englands best. Both are in a lovely part of the world but Prescott might be the more enjoyable drive to it. But there's not much in it.

Both are a real must do. Both are very short courses though.

At shelsley standing behind the hedge above the start line is also a must, particularly when the quick stuff is on. Paddock access is freely accessible at both.

Shelsley is fascinating if you like to get near to a real variety of cars, particularly round the paddock. Like motor racing was in my yoof.

having been to both for many years, agree that Shelsley has more character and a much more relaxed atmophere. Prescott is owned by the Bugatti owners club, who can at times be very much up their own aholes!

Went to Shelsley in the end, simply because they had a more interesting event at a convenient time. Weather was very good; can imagine it might be a bit miserable otherwise. Pretty much concur with what everyone said: lots of character but a bit cramped and viewing not always easy.
