I was idly wondering, would it be wrong to claw back some of the downforce lost by the flat middle bit with downforce generating nose, bit like this?

That's what the Brawn nose reminds me of, with a bit of Renault 2009 wide front wing supports thrown in too.

I don't think the noses themselves generate much downforce. The key to a good nose design is making sure it channels the flow as best as possible to the areas that do generate downforce, ie. the underfloor/diffuser and rear wing.
