So I was watching the race on our DVR and noticed that the stands were at best 25% full during the race.

Are empty stands the best way to promote the pinnacle of motorsport?

ETA: Doesn't the army in plain clothes of one nation make up the crowd at their GP?

I went to Bahrain and Malaysia a couple of years ago... neither track was particularly successful at filling the grandstands (other than the ones opposite the pits). The price of tickets in Malaysia was very cheap so I don't understand how the promoter can afford to pay Bernie and make a profit (although I suspect that Sepang benefits from government subsidies).

Bahrain only has a population of around 700,000 which might be a contributing factor!

BE doesn't care how many fans get tosee the races for real.He only cares about TV audience figures...

SAdly unlike football where the visiting fans a priority,F1 is not seen as a working mans sport, more like a play thing for the rich.

Perhaps that attitude should change?

I'm not even sure that Bernie cares about the TV figures, his priority is squeezing as much money from each venue as possible which is why there are so many "new" venues appearing on the calendar each year.

he cares about VIP attendance too. every new circuit has a very swanky VIP facility. i don't think silverstone does tho so F1 can't go there anymore
