Chaps,

I recently uploaded a few photos for another forum I use. The users on there are spread all over the world so are always interested by different events. I've tried to photograph a few of the meetings I've been to the last couple of years. I hope they prove to be of some interest to you chaps too. I appreciate a lot of you will have been at most of these anyway. Oh and all the captions are from memory so I apologise for any inaccuracies, please feel free to pedant away if I've got anything wrong

Goodwood Revival 2007. I hesitated about posting this. Martin Stretton had an awful accident just a couple of metres in front of us in Jose Alberquerque's Bizarrini. This is the aftermath - had to be cut open as the car broke its back upon impact. He escaped with a broken elbow and his talent intact.


Monaco GP Historique 2008. Fearless Frank Sytner relaxes in his V8 Climax engined Lotus 24. The harbour-front paddock is the most spectacular I've ever seen.

Always wondered why all of those running P34s run the less successful 77 car, Ive never seen anyone in the 76 car

There is a '76 car running in the States - there was a photo of a report from the Monterey Historic a year or two ago in Autosport illustrating it descending the Corkscrew. Not sure if it's ever been to Europe though. 512M is a personal favourite of mine too. There were a pair of brothers - the Steigers I believe - who used to run a 512M and a 312PB in the Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge about 12 years ago. Lucky buggers!

Monaco is bienniel and unfortunately for the wallet, it occurs the same years as the Le Mans Classic. It is a fantastic event - you get the drama of GP cars in the streets, but at a fraction of the price of the real thing. Last year was boiling hot and the paddock on the harbour front is open to the public on the Friday so you can just wander around to your heart's content. Next year features races for historic F3 cars as well so looks really good. The atmosphere all weekend is amazing with hundreds of supercars from all round the world crusing the streets in the evenings. I'd strongly recommend it!

You like taking pics, why don't you get yourself something good with a longer lens?

Monaco Historics, that's something I'm definitely going to do. Next year it shall be.

Revival 2008 TT . I went to (and watched on tv) quite a bit of racing last year too but this was still my stand out race of the year. It really did make my hair stand up with excitement!

These are a bit of an odd-ball selection using my dad's SLR, my compact and my phone. I spend too much on the Elise and going to 20-odd meetings a year to afford a decent camera. I keep promising myself one though...

I'm afraid I've only corresonded with Martin a couple of times. I sent him a well-wishing email after the Goodwood crash and a couple of photos of him in the March 712 at Oulton Park. I was shaking for days after that - worst accident I'd seen since Neil Shanahan's fatal FFord crash at Oulton. He really is a genuine hero of mine though. I also chatted to him at Silverstone after his astounding drive in the Kumschick Spice SE90. He and Hadfield are my favourite historic racers by far.

My wee brother had a Daf 33 that when originally built had a V8 in it, had a Fiat twin cam in it when he had it, I've no idea where it ended up as a guy came hundreds of miles and trailered it away after it had been off the road for a good while, was yellow with red and blue wheel arches, brilliant fun machine and shocked a few bigger cars, oh the memories.....................

Yes Goodwood was a nasty moment, I remember Amanda (his ex wife) was commentating and was quite shocked. She left the mike and ran to the accident. Thank goodness it was not as bad (for him) as it looked.

Martin has kindly introduced me to many people and I am privelidged to know Glasel,Fulch and many more respected drivers. Mr Fulch is one of Berni Ecclestone's mates and he gets to drive his Brabham(BT51?).

I will always remember Christian Glazel turning up with a Shelby Daytona Coupe a few years ago and it was a jaw dropping moment to see it running at full chat at Goodwood. Just to be able to ask to sit in some of the classic race cars is awesome.

The 6-wheel Tyrrell is my favorite but I think the owner Simon Bull wants it to be raced less often..

I'd often wondered about Amanda Stretton - is she married to Bob Berridge now? MS is a beautifully controlled driver with a remarkable ability to flatter any car. Did you see his battle at Goodwood with David Methley a few years ago? MS in Elan 26R and Methley in the Marcos. He is very fair, but very takes no prisoners.

Glasel has an epic collection of cars - I know he has a Peugeot 905 Evo among others. His Daytona Cobra is quite stunning, although I was surpised he was a little off the pace of Bellm in it last year. Goodwood really sorts the men from the boys! I believe Glasel has his own Brabham BT49 and Folch races Bernie's car. Alright for some, hey?

Yes, that's correct about Amanda.

On the 26R, was that the race when the car had a problem, when he was in the lead? I have been in that car, it's wonderful. I think it was an ex-Jackie Stewart mount.

Yes, Mr Glasel has a Brabham, and a brilliant brilliant car it is too. Here is an old TGP Brands shot (35mm scan) from the pits. Christian also has a Fina F1 Mclaren, it is a true dream garage!

I remember the first time I met him he was interested in my karting background and suggested I ran Formula Renault the following season.

I had to highlight my race budget was slightly less than his...lol
