Congratulations to Adam Carroll on his A1 GP title, Bradley Smith on his 125GP win, Rob Huff on a WTCC win and James Walker on his Renault World Series triumph. It has been a great day.
In a season where we have a British F1 World Champion, British World Championship leader, a British race winner in Indycar and a British driver leading the BTCC, I wonder if we could have a British Grand Prix one day in the future?

Someone had a go at me for classifying John Watson as British before.
To me, Britain is the same thing as the UK, but I'm guessing officially Britain is just the Island with Scotland, Wales and England? So what are the likes of Gibraltar and The Falklands? The Commonwealth, UK, British? What does that make Canada, India, South Africa, Australia etc if not the Commonwealth? Ex-British imperial territories? These places seem to vary which 'thing' they are part of depending on what they compete in it seems, on a whim.
Confused and bemused.

Ireland - Independant sovereign state. Not part of GB, UK, or the Commonwealth of Nations.

On January 1 1983, anyone who was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies on December 31 1982, and had the right of abode* in the UK, became a British citizen.
I was an avid supporter os the original Seat Cupra race series which Rob won (I even have the original Race Rivals DVD signed by Rob) It this which catapulted him through the ranks of professional driving.
That series also spawned many other good drivers most notable apart from Huff will probably be Gordon Shedden and then Ben Winrow , but lets not forget Gavin Smith , and also lets not forget the driver with the most talent of all but ultimately the worst sponsorship luck Stefan Hodgetts.

For historic reasons (and political to some extent), the Irish Republic has always offered those from Northern Ireland the choice of partcipating as "Irish" sportsmen/women. Some take up the offer, others don't.
Don't forget that the UK's olympic team bills itself as "Team GB", which isn't, strictly speaking, correct.
