I'm going to see the grand prix on thr 24th and have tickets for a grandstand seat (woohoo).
Has anyone been to Secteur Rocher for the qualifying? Is it worth considering that or should I get a grandstand seat for that as well?
I'll be with my father who is in his 60s and we don't want to be standing for hours on end to see the track through people's heads.

A quick Google reveals a few pictures - here's one example. Seems to be the rocky bit around Rascasse.

We went a couple of years ago and at the time considered just GA for qualifying - in the end went for the grandstand that looks into the pits and the section between swimming pool and Rascase - didn't seem stupidly expensive from memory - I think as the previous poster's piccies shows - the only GA area to speak of is the hillside below the palace.
To be honest we preferred the view from there to the stand looking out over harbour towards the tunnel (on race day)- when the cars are closest to you they are below the front of the grandstand.
also; a tip for the day - sort out your lunch etc early - not a huge amount of choice (and cross your legs!)

If your dad is in his 60's I wouldn't even think about it.
It is very rocky and steep, it makes Silverstone spectator banking look like a luxury grandstand. I'm also not convinced the view would be any good. If you're going all the way down there, it seems a shame to scrimp on the last bit!
See if you can get a different seat for qualifying than the race it will mix it up a bit as you can't walk around the circuit like at other venues.

I have watched several Grand Prixs from that hillside, although not for the last 10 or 15 years!
You used to get an excellent view, albeit distant, if you picked the right spot. Could see the cars for a significant distance round the harbour and back down the straight.
However it is not designed for comfort, is very steep, and you are guaranteed to have people knocking into you! In the days I went I was younger and more willing to sacrifice comfort for something cheap!
