and here's one that#s bang on the money...from December 2008....

that was me at the start of last season.
he had a better quote though.
"im feeling very confident, and i knoe ive easily got the pace to win this race, even from the back of the grid here"

Was it me? Either way, i'm absolutely delighted to be proved wrong.It was a close call for him. Absolutely nobody wanted him last year, not even Torro Rosso. Only one man was interested in him, the chap that just happens to be the smartest in the pitlane.
For years people have been saying "give him a good car and he'll be brilliant", and for years i've been pointing out that it just doesn't work like that. Nobody 'gives' anyone a great car, you have to go and get it for yourself or turn your own car into a great car.
Then blow me, somebody does just that - 'gives' him a great car. It's very unusual indeed, unprecedented i would say. And he had to wait a long time for it too.
But i've been very impressed by him. His driving is fantastic this season and his demeanor outside of the car is just as impressive imo, and i hope it continues. And i'm glad that he is now beating Barichello.

because i don't think Lewis would languish in uncompetitive machinery for a decade or so. He'd be out of there, and other teams or team bosses would be fighting for his services, instead of sacking him. Same applies be it lewis or any other very competitive driverbut put Lewis in an equally uncompetitive car and see how much he wins."

Glad you didn't take offence - I was looking for the quote someone posted here that Button wouldn't win another race for as long as they had a hole in their arse... 
but I couldn't find it.I think you are on the money with Hamilton, but he doesn't come with the "history" that Button has had (although he is working on that....). The Williams BAR contract wrangling ended Button's chances of a McLaren drive and I am sure other teams crossed him off their lists at that point too.
There was a great quote from someone post Australia after someone mentioned they'd put down some money on him to win and were thinking of reinvesting some of the winnings on a championship bet. It went something along the lines of...
"This is just a flash in the pan and betting on Button to win more races and championship this year would be a really stupid thing to do"

Its over 2 years old now and occured following the 2006 season when Jenson had pretty good year in a reasonably competitive car, before the disasterous 2007 Honda car was born which put paid to any possibility of the thread title becoming true. Even back then when Jenson was consistently challenging for points and podiums though, there were lots of largely unfounded negative opinion flying around about him, I was one of the very few arguing for the defence!
Suffice to say if Jenson wins the title this year I shall be asking more than one of those on that thread if they indeed no longer have a hole in their ar$e

Not at all. but I couldn't find it.
For the record though, i have actually won a £5 bet that Button would win a race. Wasn't prepared to risk more than a fiver though.

But to be fair Stuttgartmetal does add to that comment "JB is just like DC. They are fast where they are happy" which is true
Couldn't resist posting Phil Bennett's comment either, after JB's performance today (OK, so he was 5 kgs lighter than Vettel...)
