I did wonder whether they'd be interesting in buying Brawn outright, and running it as the Mercedes team. No McLaren name/team to steal the limelight and valuable publicity, tell poor lies, or steal opponents' data.The McLaren side haven't exactly covered themselves with glory, and I can well imagine that Mercedes might like to distance themselves. Their relationship with Brawn might yet bear fruit.

Red Bull are in talks with Mercedes for a supply of engines. As they already supply McLaren and Force India under long term contracts, and the Brawn contract was a last minute one for this year only it will be Brawn that lose the engines as Mercedes have said they will power no more than three teams.
Cant see it happening, Mercedes if anything will be looking to reduce their investment / involvement in the sport, not increase it by taking on Brawn as well. They can't just sell up and cut ties with Mclaren on a whim , partly because their stake is going to be worth a lot less if they decide to sell up as there will be no engine supply.
