F1 - the best driver pairings

an idea that occurred from a previous thread - what drivers would you like to see paired in a team? ok, add the team if you want but over the years watching F1 one of the things that has fascinated me has been the relationship/competition between drivers in various teams.

My choices in the same car?

1. Webber and Hamilton
2. Kimi and Alonso
3. Vettel and Kubica

For different reasons in all cases of course

Similar attitude, no bullst. Both incredibly fast in the right car.

If you want a pairing you need two drivers that can work together.
And to have a good pairing you need two good drivers that can work together.

The evidence seems to be that neither Alonso or Hamilton likes being in a team with an equal driver.
So who out of the very best in F1 at the moment has a track record of being OK as an equal? Looks like Button, Massa, Kubica and Kimi to me (I am having doubts about how "complete" Vettel is yet). So perm any two from four.

Going with last year, it would have been interesting to see Kimi and Lewis in the McLaren (both drivers who like front end bite and don't mind the oversteer) and Filipe and Heiki in the Ferrari (two drivers who like understeer).

Got to sympathise with Kubica though, surely? A realistic shot at the WDC stymied by the team focussing on the 2009 season, where they proudly gave him a less competitive car...

There were a lot of negative points between them. But boy did they race well, pushed each other all the way to the end. Would be good to see them do it again. Other than that i think Button and Hamilton would be good to see. Two completely different driving styles, one smooth one aggressive. And both british

I would pay a lot of money to see Michael Schumacher return to F1 to partner Lewis Hamilton (I know it wouldn't happen because of Schumi's Ferrari commitments), but if what autosport are saying is true, Ferrari are meeting tomorrow to "discuss their involvement in the future of F1", worst case scenario, no Ferrari in 2010, Schumi out of a job, and I can't see Kovalainen in McLaren number 2 next year...

People are saying Lewis can be the next Schumacher, so why not put him in the same car as Schumacher, see what's what? Would either be a great relationship between the drivers or a very Prost/Senna esque pairing. Which reminds me; they were the greatest pairing of drivers in the last 20 years. Alonso/Hamilton 2nd best; the pairings with the most bitter rivalries always seem to provide the best results.

Not really, if Ferrari didn't bh to the FIA then they would have been well and truely thrashed in the constructors, Massa gave the title away for them by handing the lead of the Brazilian GP to Kimi that year. Yeah, there weren't any team orders there....
