ex Tasmin Challenge car as a track day/sprint toy?
Discussion
Hi,
I was directed here from the wedge section and wondered if anyone could comment on the suitability of an ex Tasmin Challenge car as a road-going track day and sprint car?
How far are the racers modified from standard 280i spec and are there any road-legal cars competing? Any idea on noise test levels for a typical Tasmin racer?

HI Chris
I cant comment as I havent had one, but im sure that Dave will be along to advise ( NTEL) ultmately though if its all set up to go racing why not use it for that? Your would be made very welcome, there are already half a dozen wedges in the series. www.tvrchampionship.com

Hi,
I don't think I can afford to race just yet, but after doing various track days and a sort of sprint with my S3 I fancy something a bit more track-orientated for club sprints, hillclimbs and track days.
To be honest a Caterfield or something mass produced like an MX5 probably makes more sense, but I've definitely caught the TVR bug and I'm just looking to see if there's any realistic way of staying in the fold.

If you can't afford to race, have you thought of the TVRCC Speed Championship?
Yes I have. And the more local rounds of it are a distinct possibility if I stick with a TVR of some description. In fact it was the idea of using my S3 in the Speed Championship that got me thinking about sprinting in the first place - the only thing is I'm aiming to do quite a few track miles between sprinting and track days and I'm worried about the resale and maintainence implications of doing that in my nice shiny road car!
Whilst NTEL's in Fuerteventura I'll give you my thoughts on my 2.8 Tasmin.
It would be ideal for track days/sprints but I wouldn'nt like to drive it to much on the road.
Whilst I know nothing about engine tuning, mine seems to have a very small 'power band' that, I assume is down to the camshaft. This power band starts about 5000rpm and lasts about 1500rpm. Below that it feels more like a 1 litre than a 2.8. I imagine you'd be revving the nuts off it on the road which, bearing in mind it will have no soundproofing at all will probably drive you mad.
I don't mind the S6 being loud but I think don't this would be quite as enjoyable.
That said I was looking for a track/sprint car last December to prevent damaging my Tuscan on trackdays following a scary spin at Oulton Park. I too decided I couldn't afford to race but here I am having been to Cadwell and Rockingham, kicking myself for booking my Le Man's ferry and tickets instead of the next round at Brands.
