Knockhill, SMRC Sports and Saloons.
Discussion
Well gents I gave it a go this weekend. I finally managed to get the Tuscan out on track although up against some very fast 4x4s and a Lambo....? Although I stood NO chance of beating these £300K super racers I kept it clean and completed both races. Apparently the Track temp was higher than Monoco last weekend, which is very unusual for Knockhill.
This tuscan has a 3.9ltr RV8 although I feel if I had fited an AJP I could compete stronger with the bigger spec cars. Sandy Reid of Scottish Classic Sports Cars did a great job setting the car up over night.....Thanks Sandy!. I was running with Yokohama road tyres which are also to thin for the car to run on. Suspention set up was also pure guess work, so I'm looking for some advice on this, ride heights etc., from some of the old challenge car guy's. On the first race I finished in 13th overall but first in class. In the second race I managed to smoke 3 or 4 cars of the start down in to Duffas but they just pulled away from me on the back straight, I think their turbos were up to sped at that point and the slick tyres they were running, also up to temp. Anyway in this race I finnished 9th overall and again first in class. I had steady 61sec lap's in both races although there is alot more to come.
I had a great time out and many thanks to Jes and all of the TVR club members who came down to watch the car going round, It's good to have a fan club.... but no on asked for my autograph....!
Well here's looking forward to the next time, and I'm looking forward to someday coming down to some of the Challenge meetings down south. I'am looking for any advice that might be out there regarding set up. Sorry If I've hijacked your forum, but hey, I own one too.

Brian,
nice to see a Tuscan running at Knockhill again. I can think of two locals who have run them in the past. Olly Ross, currently running a black Lotus in the Classic Sports and Saloons, ran one for a year or so. Brian Luti, of Dreadnought in Callender, prepared/ran one for a few years for a farmer, possibly Jim Mclaren ?, in the area.
Not wanting to put a downer on your first event but a few of us marshals, on the chicane, were commenting on a knocking noise, apparently from the engine/drive train as you passed us. As you crested the rise, on a trailing throttle ?, there was a definite knocking sound which disappeared as you got back on the throttle. One of the marshals who knows a thing or two about cars commented that it sounded like a bottom end of the engine problem.
Hope we miss-heard things and all the best for the rest of the "season".

We ran our Tuscan At knockhill in 2005, when the tvrcc challenge visited the circuit, although we only had a stock 4 ltr Chimaera engine in it then and at least one of the races was very very wet !!!!
I'd love to take it back there now with another 100+ bhp and slicks..

The offer is always open for you to return and now know you will be in good company, planning to bring Tamora out in July as it 'should' be finished. Shame that no TVRs could manage this w/e from DDMC when only few hours away, Tom had a good excuse as car sick but others !!!!!! Hope you can encourage a few to travel and then we can look at getting our own class in local series, understand only 5 cars needed!

I've fitted 'GAZ Gold pro's', 750lbs front and 550lbs rear.
Not sure if the AJP engine is differnt weight but most Tuscans used 800lbs Front & 400lbs Rear or 900lbs and 500lbsI am not fimilar with Gaz shocks but you need them very stiff (it should feel like a go-kart)
A 10mm - 15mm rake on the car is a good start and this can be adjusted to compensate for over/under steer
Do not have too much rear toe in only about 2.5mm each side (5mm overall)
1.5 - 2 Deg rear camber
Front I usually like to have parallel or toe in by 1mm max overall
you can run slightly toe out this will give you a better initial turn in.
Front camber anything between 6-8 deg
Watch the tyre pressures do not get too high and if you can a heat spread across the tyre is a good check on set up ( you are looking for no more than 10deg difference across the tyre)
Hope this helps
This is not a difinitive guide as each driver is differnt, but it should be a good starting set up from which to change things
PS I am no expert on set up
(but I am better at it than I am spelling)

Greatly appreciated. We'll be checking that out this week. The car looks very nice and I think I recognise it from the photo posted as a white car No 33.
Nice to see another Tuscan back out racing but it would be nice to see them in the TVR Championship on a couple of occasions.
As one of the CDL drivers almost from start to finish of CDL's involvement in Tuscans, I keep on hearing about ex CDL cars. These were generally owned by their drivers. I originally drove the old Peter Wheeler car that CDL used and rebuilt. I then bought my own car in late 2002 running with CDL in this for 2003 with Steve Guglielmi and David Mason both of whom owned their cars.
This one I think belonged to Buzz Dawkins of Maxspeed and he raced it a couple of times with CDL, once at Brands Hatch where it crashed and didn't finish. It was sold from CDL's workshop to someone who lived near Southend where it was stripped as a donor for another car and was sold on from there. It might have been an ex Phil Hindley car prior to Buzz buying it.

Very Interesting information, Thanks.Just to clear up the noise debate!!! The rear tow strap and shackle were rattling between the diffuser and the track. The leading edge of the diffuser was vibrating as well. I could see it get worse each lap as he passed the pit wall The motor is fine post race no noises or smoke and during the race the engine temp never exeeded 85 deg on a hot day. All is well for the speedfair. We have a few tricks up our sleeve!
excellent news... I had a similar experience on mine once... heard a banging on the outlap, and very nearly pitted thinking it was the diff... I didnt and carried on and won the race... the banging turned out to be the rear tow strap hook rattling on the chassis bracket which is just behind the diff

The only reason the car is up for sale is, We have a 5000M that I want to bring up to race spec, and hopefully, look like Peters Wheelers 5000M. Due to the current condition of the chassis and body work, this will be a winter project but should be ready for the spring debut race. I've had a lot of thinking and planning done, whether to sit an AJP or LS in to the Tuscan or complete the 5000M project. Sandy Reid of 'Scottish Classic Sports Cars' has put together a budget to build the 5000M therefore the Tuscan has to go. This is the only reason the Challenge car is up for sale.
After seeing what the guy's at Blackpool did for Peter.....I want one.
