To counter our friends at McLaren with the fantastic MP4-4 I thought we would put this up -

Production quality is not quite as good I'm afraid! It's a good feeling to think that across the world verious cars are being dragged out of storage and kicked back into life.

Top work Patrick thumbup

Out of interest, what are all the connections at the start and how much work did you carry out to get it to this current stage ?

The red drybrakes are the water pre-heater and the two gold drybrakes close together on the top of the oil tank are for the oil circulation/pre-heat system.

From start to finish (the car was in a bad way when we got it) it's been about 2000 hours. It's been worth it just to hear it run.

Ah I see, cheers. So are the pre heat systems all pretty similar on the cars (as I know you've played with a few) or bespoke for each one ?

Amazing to see and can't even imagine where you go about getting the info/bits to carry out the work clap

The water systems tend to be fairly similar, the method for heating the oil systems can vary quite a bit. On the Indycars there is a heater pad at the base of the oil tank which is very civilized - you just plug it in and wait.

Up until the mid 1990's most F1 teams just heated the water so we make our own pre-heat rig with a water oil heat exchenger to use the hot water to heat the oil. We just pump the oil out of the tank, through the heat exchanger and back in. With cars where the oil tank is between the engine and gearbox this has the added benefit of warming up the geabox a little as well. Anything you can do to help these things is worth doing.

Ahh.

Judd EV V8, that brings back fond memories.

I was a trainee engine builder at Engine Devs from 1989-1993.

I believe Capelli was denied the victory by fuel pick up problems afer leading most of the GP after not stopping for any pit stops.

It was far easier to watch than the Mc clip (far too much background noise!)

Lovely job Patrick, the car looks stunning.

Maybe i should do a montage of building and firing up the March 8.8 litre Can Am car Taku is driving at Goodwood in a couple of weeks, the startup procedure would give some of you a good laugh.
