Cheap endurance racing

Okay, just back from Le Mans and really enjoy endurance racing. It's not so much who's fastest as who's consistent (and reliable).
Surely there must be some endurance races in the UK whether 3,6,9,12 or 24 hours for cheap cars. I know there's Britcar and 2CV racing but I was thinking more along the lines of 'Less than £500 including mods' varying engine sizes and at least two or three drivers, etc ,etc. Upto 1500cc, 2000cc, over 2000cc. Obviously there would need to be certain safety criteria to meet - fireproofing, fuel cutoff, etc. I'm talking about taking part here, not watching.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or can I start a Pistonheads 24 hours of PIEndurance? Who's in?

check it out, the more drivers that you have in the car, albeit less track time for each of you, the cheaper it gets. We did it for a laugh once and even now that we are a full time Britcar team, I'd still do it again, great fun

Can't we get something together here involving cars? Surely to God if they can do Plymouth to Dakar for £xxx then £500 for a 24 hour race can't be that hard?
The difference is that things like Plymouth to Dakar are just a group of people going from one place to another on public roads, not officially sanctioned motorsport on a circuit. I'm not saying it's impossible to do what you're talking about for any particular cost, but don't use banger rally type events as a guide to how much it ought to cost.Can't we get something together here involving cars? If I was to go back to UK to race I'd definetly consider funcup if I had the money.
But the others are right "drive from point A to point B" usually on public roads (albeit closed) cuts out the:
Track hire costs
Catering
Getting a race Licence
FIA approved and prepared cars
club membership
etc, etc.

24 hr karting is great.
2 in the uk this year.
One is hire karts only at daytona milton keynes, the other is at teeside autodrome. Thats half hire karts half owner drivers.
Both will be great fun. I think you can do the hire karts for £400 per person based on a 4 man team.
The best race is either circuit alain prost, thats is the kart track next to the porsche curves @ le mans. Normally sells out 6 months in advance.
There used to be one at spa, that was fun!!

If you do one at le mans, they do a 2 stroke race!! proper karting for 24 hours!

The blue book is readable online, read the bit about vehicles, specifically the safety equipment for car racing.
Then revise your £500 figure upwards. A lot
If you want a real shock, ask some race circuits how much it would cost to hire them for the weekend. Combe is the cheapest (about £5,500+VAT for a day running 9am-6pm, if you don't charge spectators for entry), but they wont be interested in hiring it to you on a Sunday or use after 6pm.

<LOL> very cheap in terms of a 24hour race on a circuit in a proper car is circa 20 grand plus building and prepping the car to start with... another 20k probably...
just at the tyres up for a start.. 800 quid for a set of slicks ( plus vat) and a set will do 3 hours if your lucky 1.5 if your not !!!

They do it in the states. Sub $500 cars (safety equipment not counted in the budget). It looks amazing. I'd be in if they did a UK version.

A new race series for cars under a £1,000 would be fantastic - think of all those motors now flooding the market thanks to Labour's car purchase scheme!
