iPhone F1 Timing App..

Hi

Did anyone use this at Silverstone?.. Was really looking forward to using it but couldn't get a data sign all day from O2!..

It's literally "F1 Timing Application" by Soft Pauer Limited, fully authorised by Burnie..

I't called F1 Timing App as per the thread title.

On paper it looks like it should be excellent, and it kind of worked though very laggy for a short time during Friday AM practice but apart from that there was no data coverage from O2 at Silverstone all weekend so it was an utter failure.

I think I heard it mentioned in the R5 commentary, unless it was an official app on a laptop, or another page on the offficial timing.

I was put off by being a bit pricey for what it was, and suspecting how laggy it might on 3G, probably works well on wi fi if you're sat at home watching the telly!.

It's worth flagging up that the app is for a single grand prix only, not for the season. Last time I checked the developers made no mention of this and I think it was quite misleading. As I recall, a 'season pass' is going to be available soon for an additional £15.

Looks like a great app, just a bit pricey.

Just thought I'd flag this up again with the new season upon us.

In short for £19.99 its quite a leap of faith. Anyone else gone for it? Will report back after Bahrain.

I thought so - I've just checked the iTunes store. £20 is still very steep for an app; the most I've ever paid for an app is £7, and that's for an app that gives the tides for any location in Europe for an entire year!! I may try one of the live F1 timing websites tomorrow instead and see what it's like. I remember last season someone at work told me about a website that gives live updates for all the practises, qual and the race. I can't remember the name of it now, but I'll try and find it and see how it looks on my iPhone's screen.

I took a gamble and it's pretty useful.

I had it on during first and second practice today. You can watch all the drivers move around the track, timings, splits, relative timing to other vehicles. Plus you get a news feed, which isn't as good as the bbc text updates on their website though.

The map thing is pretty good in landscape mode. You can zoom in, rotate and tilt the map of the track. You can also follow just one driver.

Was watching second practice in the office, and had a meeting in the last half hour. Just unplugged the iphone and carried on watching the timings

Real downside though is the fact if you're using it all the time not plugged in, it saps battery power.

Have you tried the official f1 app? Go onto F1.com and select mobile options. You can get the links from there. I couldn't find it on the app store but it seems very good during quali 1

Just downloaded it off F1.com and it looks like it could be good but it won't let me sign in even after I've registered.

I've just used the free try for weekend without a log in and it's basically the FIA timing screens for free. Good stuff.

The official app won't work on iPhones so I've downloaded the £20 one. Huge price, but extremely good. It's really enhanced my enjoyment of the TV coverage, and it'll be invaluable under the dinner table for Mothers' Day tomorrow :-)

Just downloaded the free formula1.com app for my iPhone. Is the only difference between this and the £20 app the map of where the drivers are on the track, or does the £20 get you other stuff too?
