Some very positive things from FOTA after their Bolgna meeting today. When was the last time the fans were mentioned in discussions or even a press release?

Cosworth dead, Refuelling dead, KERS rejected but subject to resus. Some mid season testing and the dust blown from wind tunnels. 12 points for a win. Cheap(ish) engines and gearboxes. A full grid. But the most important bit for the teams is that there will be some stability in the regs. But there is promise of new moves come 2013.

'Financial pressure' is what outed Mossy, according to Alan (James not Donnelley) and, of course, mention was made of the fact that he would have had to go to the WSMC with just five teams, and one of them looking rather less than totally committed and another seeming less thatn capable.

No criticism of Willams and Force India, at least not in public. So pretty good overall.

Once again, a pawn in the game - I feel sorry for them. Is it definite that USF1 are not going to use them then? I can't see any way that FOTA isn't going to allow Cosworth into the club...

Interesting comments from James Allen (who makes a good commentator when he has time to think about what he says) and interesting about Cosworth. Personally, I think it would be great to have a non-manufacturer engine supplier involved, but question how well they could fund the ongoing development. Assuming they would use it as a promotional tool for their engineering capability, however, it could still be possible. The concern is their requirement to supply 3 teams, whilst the manufacturers have agreed to support the new teams - not sure what the outcome might be there.

I am looking forward to no refuelling, and would love to see no tyre changes either as we had a couple of seasons ago. 12 points for a win is probably a good idea. All in all, sounds good to me.

How are Cosworth going to compete financially? They have an engine which although good in its time was probably only intended for one race and never intended to cost this little. They have to redevelop it for different rules and then they will still only be able to sell it at the same price as the manufacturers, who can pour money into their own development, then sell the customer engines at little more (or maybe even less) than break even for the parts...

Not sure about the financial position as I mentioned above, and some of the following may not be technically correct. Cosworth claimed their engine was capable of running 1/3 of a race distance at 20,000rpm, that would put a lot of stress on the engine. If the rev limit was reduced to 18,000 the stresses would be much lower and therefore the engine would last longer - not sure if that would be enough to only need 8 engines for a whole season, however, or what impact the rev reduction would have on power relative to other engines.

Cosworth's engine is superb. They ran it at higher revs than anyone else - I understand it was run for an entire race distance with a rev limit of 20,000 rpm. And that's why they will be shut out of F1....
