What was the best season of F1?

I suppose it depends where your interest lies? History, controversy, close fought seasons, politics, or preference for certain drivers. Give us a clue and we can give you an idea about the best years!
Personally, I'm trying to build a collection of all the years. That way I can see the continuity from the first motor races and the evolution of motor sport to the present day!

I posted this drunk and to be honest now I'm sober I realise that it's a complicated question. The different eras offered so many different things. I'm tempted to get a DVD from each decade actually. I'm in no doubt about the 60s, I'd go for '67 - the last wingless cars, the new 3 litre formula, Jim Clark, it was amazing 
From the 70s I'd like to see Stewart battling it out in the Tyrell. Not sure about the 80s, but from the 90s I'd like to see Senna, Prost, Mansell, Patrese et al.

A bit like silverstoen this year.

For whatever reason (and there are several) you have a very close fought battle, races won and lost on both sides through stupidity and bad luck, first wins for vettel and Kubica, and the championshiop won on the last corner of the last lap of the last race. 1988 was a classic. The battle between Prost and Senna was incredible. If you think there's lots of politics nowadays, then there was just as much in 88 but it was all concentrated in one team.
It was all down to Mclaren of course and they failed to win just the one race but even so it was rivetting right up until the last race. And, of course, it carried on into 89 and the last race again. Whilst McLaren's domination of the sport for seven out of eight seasons was seemingly similar to Ferrari's slightly shorter stint ten seasons later, in fact there was one significant difference. There were no team orders. This changed everything.
But 88 and 89 were the most rivetting.
The best race for me was the British in 87. Me a McLaren supporter yet reckoning that a Williams walkover was the best race is some recommendation.

17 races say, you can't repeat any locations so you're only allowed one race from one circuit and say only two from any one country. And one per decade as well!

just out of interest how much did it cost to go back then?The earliest i went to was the European grand prix at donington, where it rained and senna came from about 4th or 5th on the grid to be leading at the end of the first lap. forgot the year tbh but if my memory serves me correct(and it very often does NT)it was £60 admissionDrama, politics, great racing, British hero, and it was cheap to go and watch!!!

I imagine it must have been comparitively cheaper than today because Bernie wasn't running the show, so the circuits were able to charge sensible money for tickets. I am willing to be corrected though.

1950 - 2010 is a nice round figure of 60 years.
Call it 3 races per year.
Each at a different track.
