Track Invasion

After seeing a bit of a track invasion at Donnington after the MotoGP it got me wondering.

What is to stop these happening? Do the tracks get penalised, or sternly told off, for these?

Will there be one at Silverstone as it is the last race next year?

Happened at Silverstone before, 92 in particular springs to mind

If you intend to be going then you missed it. If Donington is completed this year was Silverstone's last.

And Dorna/FIM aren't so anal as the FIA when it comes to track invasions at MotoGP and WSBK meets.

problem with the invasion at donington, was there were 2 more races to run - lots of gravel on the circuit. marshalls were trying to keep people on the grass, particularly near the corners and braking areas, but no luck...
was watching from an upstairs box at redgate, as people were stamping the gravel from the trap out of their shoes right on the turn in to redgate corner.
felt sorry for the guys on track straight after that!

In recent years Donington has been fined heavily by the FIM, but who can really blame the fans on this occasion with MotoGP moving all the way back down South to Silverstone next year?

I've been to almost every MotoGP/500GP since they first started visiting Donington, along with WSB's & until recent years, have found International M/C racing be very good value for money in comparison to F1.

I thought the FIA were still involved somewhere within MotoGP, just not the dictatorship.

Doesnt happen in F1 as the pretty-boy-drivers would have to get near the fans..

At silverstone the big tv screens keep reminding the crowd that 'track invasions are illegal' and what-not. No fun

I am also repeatedly told speeding kills. However after several attempts I am still alive and well.

happens at Monza every year. as well as many tracks.

As far as I can see the plan for the 'new Donington' has FIA safety fence all around the edges. Pop a bit of razor wire on top and that should see the end of unplanned invasions. I guess it's one of the factors you have to live with to attract 90,000 spectators rather than the normal 90.

As for gravel on the track for subsequent races (presumably no longer start time critical for TV purposes?) whilst I agree that is not a good result, why the problem? Shortage of marshalls? Shortage of brooms? Not enough track cleaning vehicles?

They do it at Le Mans every year. Last year (2008) we ran onto the track and were right under the podium with the Aston Martin boys! Was great fun. Like has been said above at silverstone they say its illegal on all the big screens about 15 mins before the end of the race.

If they want to stop the track invasion at Donington they need to fill in the gaps at the bottom of the fences as its so easy to crawl underneath, especially once the marshalls have moved from their posts. I got on track yesterday and loved it tbh, even though I knew it was wrong and a massive pain in the arse for the organisers *insert embarrased smiley here* I got some great pictures of the riders on the slow down lap and the noise right next to Dovisioso's Honda and Cannipas Ducati was unreal

Unfortunately there were fans that took it too far. One tried running into the pitlane and got slammed against the fence by security and I saw another fan fighting with a member of the suzuki team on the pitwall Theres no need for behaviour like that, I was just happy to be able to stand infront of the podium and applaud a rider for a brilliant first win

Some circuits ( Silverstone included ) operate trespass bylaws. If you invade the track you get nicked for trespass and get a criminal record for your efforts.

It won't happen at Silverstone, the gates in the debris fence will be locked and they can only be opened from trackside.
