Castle Combe......is it worth it?

Just got off the phone to the BRSCC. They have confirmed that we only have two 10 lap races. Which for us Class C guys probably means 8 or 9 laps at the very best. At 300 and odd quid and the expense of getting and staying there, that is bloody crap.

What are your thoughts chaps?

That'll be similar to a 15 min race rather than our usual 20 mins... and at mallory on sunday we actually only got 17.5 and 18 mins.. So it is less track time but not that much less.

Its certainly worth going to every track at lest once, as You never know when You'll get the chance to go back... Combe is of the circuits I've only done and thats in 9 years of racing.. others I've only done once are Thruxton and Knockhill..

Its also quite a nice place to actually stay for the weekend. oddly for a UK circuit they actually have spectators so its good to perform in front of a crowd for once... Cracking food and beer in the circuit at a good price... The britcar boys are also there and fingers crossed for a Sagaris or two !!!

Having said That Im not racing there ( but hoping to be there for the weekend), I've only got the budget for about 3 races this year, so Im giving it a miss in favour of angelsey and oulton

Guess its official then. I'll have to think about whether or not I'm going to do this round. Its an aweful lot of money to shell out for that. Besides that, in Class C, I don't think Mick, Keith, Ivor, or Nick R will be out. That will leave a very sparce Class C grid probably with reduced points.

Thats one of the problems of being on a race weekend with a bigger headline act.. either the costs go up or th time gets reduced or both.... Britcar entry fees seem to have gone through the roof recently i wonder what their paying per min..

If 1.15 secs is a decent time, then 10 laps will be over in 12.5 mins and mugs like me will probably only get 8 laps by the tme the winner finishes!!!
That seems like a rip off to me. Either the entry fee should be reduced by at least one third or we should be lobbying for at least 15 laps as per one of the other races that weekend.

this is our nearest race too,10 laps at 1.09 will only be 11.5 minutes, this is the longest trip for some,this wont help us attract the 20 plus grids we have had this year.

Nah.......its no good. People who are chasing championship points have got to compete. They don't have a choice really, they have to go or tata to the championship. The BRSCC have them over a barrel.

As a paid up racing member of the BRSCC, as we all are, I have sent them an email proposing that they either increase the races to a minimum of 15 laps or give us all an entry fee reduction of 30%. I'll see what they come back with.

Maybe a letter from our series sponsors would help, OWEN

Nobody has yet noted the key point, which is that the meeting is organised not by the BRSCC but by the Castle Combe Racing Club. So really it is pointless addressing any concerns to the BRSCC: they ought to be addressed to the co-ordinator, who will presumably take them up with CCRC.

The championship regulations state that the minimum scheduled distance for a round should be 12 miles, which would be about seven laps of Combe...

Ah...... Good point Ian, didn't realise that. Thanks for the info. I still think it is worth addressing it to the BRSCC as its them who I am paying.

Combe is a crap track anyway. Unless you like turning right a lot.

avon rise, bobbies and the esses all require left turn, hammerdown is just a touch to the left, thats why you find you need to turn right a lot, unless you were driving a combine cutting the corn in the middle, when right turns would be all you need. hoc

It's one massive right turn with a few little kinks in it. I've been on better designed airfield circuits.

Its amazing you have time to go outside let alone drive a race track with over a thousand posts in 5 months....LOL...LOL
