Watching F1 in America?

Off on my hols in August to America. I'll miss two races - are they covered on US TV?

I heard they occasionally show the F1 on a channel called "Speed"?

Any ideas?! Alternativley I go into media shut down, avoiding all news contact - this is quite difficult at an airport on the way home!

The Speed channel is a subscription cable channel, but a number of races are shown on the free to air channel Fox Sports. Speed is your best bet.

Am off there next week but have Speed on a 50" plasma...yeah baby.

Just understand that the commentators are in a studio in NY, not at the track . The quality of commentary is not a patch on the British feed. (Oddly, we get both the Speed Channel and the BBC programming in Canada.)

I'll be in a hotel so probably limited to what channels they have with no option to get any subscription channels.

Depending on opening time you might find a sports bar that would show a later day repeat.. .just need to get to know the barman. Some of these places have dozens of TVs

If you're taking a laptop then wi-fi, a laptop, BBCIplayer and foxy proxy are what I use to watch F1 here in the US.

The Speed channel is included in most basic cable packages.

Except when they black the coverage on Speed out, stupid commercial rights.

.....they don't rate F1 in the States....they like simple racing without twists and turns.........when I was over there for a month at a time I always found it very hard to get any sort of decent coverage of F1....they are bunch of bloody heathens....;)

I've never not been able to see it on Speed.

One can hardly blame them for being cool about F1 after the tyre debacle and then Bernie pulling the GP because he can get more money from F1 hotspots like Bahrain, Turkey and Singapore.

The crowds in Indy were good and there is interest but because of greed there is no longer a GP in North America and that is to the long term detriment of F1. (And may or may not have been a contributory factor in BMW, Honda et.. pulling out. The incentive for major manufacturers to invest hundreds of millions in a race programme that doesn't cover their single biggest market is not great).

I watched two thirds of the Turkish Grand Prix in Orlando (missed the start)

We English don't know how blessed we are....

It was on the Fox network IINM.

15 laps were missed when they cut to a thunderstorm warning and stayed with it until it had passed over.

The commentators really know s0d all about F1.

Ad break every 5 mins. Literally.

You are all missing the point that it is shown in High Def and looks stunning even if the commentators are not quite the ticket, although not too bad iirc (last on I watched was Malaysia this year after I had drunk quite a lot)

I didn't think F1 was available in HD at all until at least next year? Or are the BBC just being lazy?

I watched in on some Fox channel while I was over there last month. I was in the most pikey hotel imaginable so I doubt it was an expensive subscription channel.

Suspect they are being tight rather than lazy as it is unlikely that the HD feed would cost the same as the HD feed. Mind you a quick bit of research shows I may be wrong and it was in fact shown in an upconverted widescreen format on an HD channel so still better than we get. In my defence I was very very drunk.
