John Surtees ~ One of my all time Motor Sport greats. Saw him in action on both two and four wheels. World Champion on and in the Italian red "Fire Engines", MV-Agusta and Ferrari. Also, IIRC, he gave Honda their very first win in f1 in their own name, and in that he played a greater part than simply driving the cars.
The loss of a son or daughter has to be one of the most dreaded losses. Very, very sad.

It is so sad, probably the most dangerous part of Henry's weekend was driving to the
track (statistically) a 1/1000 of a second each way in the race and he would have probably been OK.But sadly motor racing is Formula if and buts.
I spent a bit of time on Saturday watching Brian Jones interviewing Henry for a documentary I gather it was on father and sons racing, Brundle, Palmer, Surtees to name but three. I spoke to Henry later on and he was charming and mature well beyond his 18 years.
He had racing pedigree,he was racing at a track with a corner named after his father and lived in a wonderful home, but you would not know it.He was a genuine lad that any mother and father would be proud to say this is my son.I hope that Big John can set up a foundation in his memory as this accident has touched so many, in the meantime I hope the Surtees family can find some inner strength at this time of need.
