in august 2009 the mercedes-sauber C9 comes back to the nurburgring.
this car wins the world championship 1989, it was the fastest car ever in LeMans with 407km/h (252.9 mph).
rob sherrard brought the car from australia to europr for several races of the historic group c.
see 2 laps inboard at the nurburgring gp-track.

Good find! Always loved the Group C's although in period I have to say I prefered the Jags!

I was thinking that they don't look that fast... until the in car bit when he floors it on the pit straight after the safety car!!

Do you think he was running the wrong ratios?! I think he was only using about 3 gears! point and squirt! like a caged animal!

I've a mate that races a Spice in that series but that Merc is in a different league. It sounds glorious too.

Probably a 5 speed due to all the torque it probably did not need 6 gears or the weight penalty it would have given back then.

It's interesting that the Porsche 917L was only about 6mph short of that C9 at Le Mans 18/19 years before.

It is a bit odd, the first chicane I think is the one used for the 24hr endurance races that include the Nordschleife, it misses 4 corners off the GP track. The last chicane is the faster of two available.
