This thread is for all the inane posts about Massa possibly, maybe, probably, unlikely winning last years F1 championship because of things that didn't actually happen.

At least it should keep the drivel from diluting the other threads.

I can sense the irony in the OP's post. But these are THE FACTS:

If nobody else was racing in F1 last year apart from him, Massa would be world champ.
If nobody was racing in f1 this year apart from him, Massa would not have had the accident and would be world champ by now

See? Massa would be 2x world champion by now. Fact.

Of course - if he'd been born in 1930 and Ferrari had supplied him with the 2008 car in 1950 he would have been World Champion every year until his retirement from the sport. It's just totally unfair.

It's funny how people forget the tenacity with which Mosley and his cronies tried to hand him the championship by "redistributing" points and penalties.

If i'd started karting when I was 5, met Ron Dennis, was as good as Lewis blah blah - i'd be world champion by now as well!!

I think the central motivation for the posts about Massa's 2008 season is that people want to give him some credit for being able to compete and withstand the pressure for an entire season, to emphasize his speed--and to voice the support of another driver so as to, maybe, balance out the obvious and abundant support for the current WDC. It's just that supporters overstate the case by saying would've and should've. Massa has made changes that I think are rare for a driver, and he has shown he can compete all year for top honors. The more drivers able to do that in F1, the more interesting the season.

You're quite right - Massa showed that he can be extremely fast and he also exhibited a few demonstrations of surprisingly ballsy racecraft.

But he didn't win the WDC (with or without a little help from the powers that be), and braying about hypothetical situations as if they are real is rather tiresome, and means I have to start silly threads such as this one.
