Just as we all thought things had settled down over the Renault incident
Nelson Piquet sr has launched another scathing attack on Renault, claiming the team "was managed by Fernando Alonso himself".
The French-based team were last week slapped with a suspended two-year ban after Nelson Piquet jr deliberately crashed his car during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix while former team boss Flavio Briatore was handed an effective lifetime ban for his involvement.
Piquet sr says his son was under enormous pressure at Renault and claims the whole debacle was "inevitable".
"This is not something that should exist in motor racing," Nelson Piquet Sr told the Brazilian media. "In my career I would never have thought about doing something like this. But the circumstances that made him do this were inevitable. He was under great pressure.
"This year was really very bad due to the favouring in terms of cars that Renault gave to Alonso. The team was not even managed by Briatore: it was managed by Alonso himself.
The former World Champion is also adamant that his son didn't come up with the idea to crash.
"Two hours before the race [Briatore] said [to Piquet Jr]: 'If you want to help the team then you have to do this'," Piquet said. "He accepted doing something under great pressure from Renault. He didn't have much else to lose in terms of his career.
"I knew that this was a crime. Manipulating the result of a race is a criminal act. There is no room for this in sport and especially when it is premeditated."

The Brabham number two drive was possibly the most notorious of all the 'making up the numbers' seats. And didn't Nelson try to order Williams to slow Mansell down?
What Honda had to cough to some time later was supplying Mansell with reduced power. Or, as they put it, tailoring the engine management to suit individual drivers. It would appear that Mansell needed something like 7mph less along the straight in order to fine tune his driving. It came to notice when he had to drive a car set up for Piquet after he crashed.
Where the pressure came on Honda to slow Mansell has never been revealed. One or two people have their suspicions but they are not saying.
William's refusal to cooperate in such machinations cost them the Honda engines.

This is Piquet Snr trying to make his son look like the misguided innocent party in all this in order to get him a drive next year.
I don't think anyone in their right mind in here believes Alonso knew nothing of the crash plan, but does NP Snr really expect people to be shocked by this 'revelation' about Alonso controlling the team?! What a prat. It's like saying 'Schumacher virtually ran Ferrari'. As if we didn't know, big deal. Shut up and sod off.

Is this the crash plot that (reputedly) enabled NP snr to manage to smash his (allegedly) lightweight nose off after setting a fast qualifying time in order to have it replaced with a more beefy replacement in time for the trip to the scales?
