Goodwood Revival - Mini's

Was having one of those 'cant sleep' nights last night so switched on the TV to catch the Mini's at Goodwood Revival.

You sometimes forget how good simple motorsport is but the 20 minute race was brilliant.

Now I remember why those little cars managed to hang in there for 40 odd years and have so many fans.

I agree. It made me want to go out and buy one and just as I was trying to convince myself that it would be a bad idea, I saw a young bloke in an old Mini which sat very low and had wide 10 inch wheels throw his car into a tight corner seemingly without having to touch the brakes.

I've been checking the price of body panels and other spares, plus looking at Mini restoration projects on ebay ever since.

Both races were awesome. Only disappointment was that Gavin and Swift ran and hid in both so no lead changes but the action behind more than made up for it. Whizzo vs Turner was incredible!

Not quite true - Nick Swift had to take the lead back in his race after being beaten off the line.

In these credit crunch time I like the idea of adding lightness to say a hot hatch, than run what I have been able to run in the past...

Mini racing at Goodwood was really good. How about AX GT's? they went really well (in their day)and are so so light...

I had a great battle with a tracked 106 GTI in my Evo VI a few years ago. I had to push him quite hard in order to make a pass in a non-braking area.

If you have the means, I highly recommend acquiring one!

Fantastic stuff!! And if my old mini is anything to go by, 100-110mph feels like about 350..
Definitely great racing.

Interesting - great to see early '60s Minis changing up with no throttle pedal lift - I reckon the gear changes were quicker than a BTCC car!!
