WRC Wales questions

Hoping someone can help with some pointers. I've never been to any Rallie save being able to catch a few stages of the Granite City Rally years ago. Always wanted to go to see proper WRC in Wales but every year miss it. Seems I have a clear weekend next week so can possibly go for a day trip.

I've had a good look at the website and it seems you can get day tickets with a car parking pass and therefore, presumably travel around the stages and perhaps watch every second or third stage as the rally when it catches up with you. In theory.

The car parks and viewing areas are however, surely going ot be quite busy and the stages are longer than just coming past the official viewing points. Could someone therefore take an OS map with them and do their own thing? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with experience of this.

Yes you can but its very hard work and you will end walking miles and miles. Even with an OS map its still difficult really unless you know the area. Trust me I've done it. If its your first year best bet I'd say is to buy tickets cos then at least you can park close to the stage, get there very early and dissapear down the stage before many of the marshalls are up and about!

These are everywhere on Rally GB. If you're thinking of driving between stages, be very careful.

Personally, I would walk a good way into a stage for the first run through that day, then hole up at a new vantage point somewhere nearer the car park, eat whatever was in my rucksack and flask, then watch the second run through the stage later in the day as opposed to trying to drive to different places.

If your there on sunday head for Bryn on the sunday morning,its the end of the margam stage.Easy parking an the police will even direct you to the "back door" entry point to the stage,you only have to go 5 minutes into the stage an you can have some amazing viewing between 2 hairpins (one above you one below) on the edge of the mountain
