That is a fair point ,but I think Fangio getting to win 5 and living to tell the tale is probably as good, if not better!

you could go further and ask the question " how many nations have won the world championship for drivers/riders in all FIA/FIM world championships?

i think the answer is just one: Britain

14 x F1 champ
2 x WRC champ
2? x Moto Gp ( or its forebear) champ
numerous WSC championships (sports cars)
3 x WTCC champ
multiple World Superbikes
1 x IRC

i don't think any other nation could come close, not even the Finns or the Yanks.

I would like to see a stat for the amount of drivers who have contested F1 ever as a ratio to the amount of world champions there have been. 31 individual WDC, to how many drivers? must be 500+ ?

What a list, eh? It makes you realised the futality of the threads about who was the greatest racing driver. Just think about some of those not mentioned.

I've seen all of those except Farina, Ascari, Hawthorn, Hulme and Fangio.

This is why it annoys me when people say Britain/England is rubbish at sport, these people are idiots who can't see past the last Football match.

Anyway 14 WDC's and a near whitewash of constructers/engine builders. Britain truly does lead the wold in motorsport.

Farina was the first and I suspect still the most disliked of GP World Champions.

My driving style is based on Seppi Farina. Stirling Moss said he watched him drive and it was good enough for him, so he copied him.

I decided if it was good enough for Moss and Farina, then it was good enough for me. Sat back from the wheel, arms straight out in front of you.
