Button and Hamilton..... Consecutive F1 champions... I know Brown sent Jenson a message of congratulations but I wonder if he understands the importance of motorsport to the UK economy. Time perhaps that he got the Govt chequebook out and helped guarantee the continuity of the British Grand Prix!

The time to do it was a few years ago. I would not recommend the government spend anything at the moment. They have already overspent far too much. Maybe if they were to divert some funds away from the Olympics farce, that would be ok.

I'm sure Button gives a feck about congratulations from Brown. Being a resident of Monaco and all.

The sport's too rich for government aid. It'll never happen - not directly, that is. Don't forget the A43 improvements; it's that kind of indirect support that's all you'll ever see.

If Govt can help fund sports academies and build infrastructure for sports then I don't see why it shouldn't help in funding projects such as Donington.

The Government is there to support one-legged, blind, muslim, lesbian single families get into important sports such as Ice Hockey for the 2012 Spaccerlympics.

It isn't there to help all those 'rich' people in motorsport pollute the planet, don't you know?

The series promoter- yes.
The circuit promoters - no.
The circuit owners - No.

Football is a sport that really is awash with obscene amounts of money. Should the government have rebuilt Wembley stadium?

Unfortunately the general negative tone of this thread says it all.

Even if the government were to try and latch on to the success of a couple of Brits by say... Building more kart tracks etc, it wouldnt be you or I getting the use of them. It would however be great fun for all those thieving pikey scrotes who seem to then have a divine right to sit on their @rses and allow our tax money to continue their sponging lifestyle.

The only way to succeed in anything like this type of sport, is to have a totally dedicated family who offer all the support and means by which to achieve your potential from around the age of 5 (although how you're meant to spot the potential when most of the school fields / leisure centres / sports facilities are now covered in council flats.

The current government do not help anyone who is capable of helping themselves! (Im not referring to the thieving pikeys helping themselves to your car stereo by the way - they can sit back relax and crack open another can of white lightning whilst watching Trisha!!!)

Given the contrasting recent trends in the respective areas, I reckon F1 has more chance of buying into the British govt. than vice versa.
