Race of Champions '09.

Is anybody honestly going to watch it this year, after the monumental cock-up they've made? For the last five winters, it's been a thrilling afternoon of racing between some of the world's best drivers from many different categories, deep into the off-season, with nothing major up for grabs. A chance for the drivers to let their hair down. For me, it's become synonymous with christmas, at a time when the decorations go up and the pantomime's in full swing.
But they had to screw it all up...

1. Three days after the end of the season
2. On a Wednesday
3. In a far-off country.

I'm appalled at these three decisions. Do they honestly expect to pull in any viewers at all?! If this keeps up, I'm afraid to say it'll be the beginning of the end for the Race of Champions.

In that hot-bed of Motorsport popularity China. Where they get the army to dress in plain clothes to fill the grandstands because otherwise the place would look empty.

Epic Fail.

I went to the first one at Wembley and it was a good atmosphere. They put on a good show. The place was not totally full, but everyone who was around me was a genuine motorsport fan and they were interested in what was going on. I think that the decision to go to China is purely because of the Birdcage Olympic stadium, nothing else.

I went to both Wembley ROC and enjoyed them. I took my young son and a few mates and may well have gone this year had it been in the UK.

Do they really care about this event in China? They would not have even heard about this event would be my guess...

Couldn't agree more - it does certainly seem odd, - I think China must have REALLY wanted it, and really wanted to use their new shiny stadium.

Gutted about this. I went to the first one at Wembley and it was awesome fun - completely different vibe to all the other events I attend. I can honestly say, though, that I have never been colder in my life! Not sure Beijing will be any better from that perspective...

Perhaps it will be a one-year blip and return to Europe soon enough. I'd gladly jump on the Eurostar and hop over to Paris if it returned there as well.

I learnt year number 2, I can tell you! We had full on ski outfits Must have looked funny, but we were warm!!!

Sounds eminently sensible; I had hoodie, leather jacket, scarf and gloves on and still felt cold!
