I'm considering attending my first Grand Prix next year & have decided to go with Montreal (subject to the negotiations with Bernie all go smoothly) I'll be going for at least a week & it'll be my only holiday next year..
So really i'm wanting some advice, i've never attended a Grand Prix before, should i book a complete package with a company that specialises in this? If so which one would you recommend? Or should i organise everything myself?
Any other advice or tips about attending my first Grand Prix overseas would be welcome

Montreal is an amazing city, in the summer the steets come alive and during the F1 week the whole place is buzzing. One of the top fly away races each year.
The question you need to ask yourself is....how long do you want to spend in Montreal and are you willing to pay the massive hotel rates within the city centre. Most hotels have a minimum five night room rate which is heavily marked up.
Secondly are you a better independent traveller or would going with a group of motorsport enthuasists be more fun?
There are many flights into Canada / USA and maybe a little rood trip or a train ride and a few days in Toronto could be interesting too.
Q. What is your timescale, wat is your budget and do you want to just do the Grand Prix or make a full holiday experience of the journey. From this we can all help you make the right choice.

I've been told some good things about the GP week in Montreal, so i'd like to spend a minimum of a week there & then maybe another week doing a bit of a road trip as mentioned. I'll be going with one other mate, so i don't mind doing the independent thing or in an organised group..

Hi Mikey, I did Montreal about 5 years ago when I was living in NYC. Hired a car and did the drive up which was a great trip in itself, then stayed on the edge of Montreal and used the excellent underground system to get into the circuit. As above, the city is buzzing so if you've got the budget a stay in the centre will be great fun.
In general I'd recommend getting grandstand seats (we were at the first corner which was good viewing for the race although the hairpin also should be good for 'incidents' and racing albeit at a lower speed). But also use the Friday and Saturday to walk round the circuit and try viewing from different locations, being a semi-street circuit you can get nice and close to the cars in places.
I've also got a Kangaroo TV for the last couple of races I've attended, basically gives you multiple live tv feeds as well as all timing etc so you can keep up with what's going on:

There are many companies who organise grandstand seats, hotel deals at all levels, VIP Passes (if you want Paddock Club Hospitality) and have hosts etc.
Without sitting down and typing out a list pop down to the newsagents and buy a copy of F1 magazine or Autosport and look at who is ABTA sanctioned then start calling!
