my 4 year old son karting

Just my 1st post and would like to show you a clip of my son karting he was 4 in april this year and his fav F1 driver is lewis hamilton

that looks awesome, what kind of karts are they? Presumably he will have to wait until he is older to race?

hi they are driving bambino zip karts and cant race til they are 7 so got plenty of practice ahead of them but at warden law where they go they are allowed to do time trials where they do 1 lap and 3 lap times etc this is organised by the kart track once a month but the best thing at the moment is "bums in seats" just getting them out with track time

Fantastic that they seem to know the racing lines? We do some go-karting days out with work and the amount of grown men that cant get it into there heads is remarkable.

I reckon they could improve their line for the hairpin closest to the camera quite a lot, with a later turn in.

Just watch his neck, good reason they start racing from 8 upwards ( neck is very fragile at that age )

I agree, my son started at Buckmore Park a couple of years ago (age 6/7) and when we moved him up to the Junior Kart Club early this year he was struggling with his neck in the faster karts.

Don't push too hard (yet!)...

I remember taking the step kids karting on holiday in croatia 6 years back - I think they were 10 and 12 at the time, a little older than me when I first got in a kart.

Regardless of how hopeless they were, I don't think I'd ever seen them enjoy themselves so much at anything sporting since then.

Its a hugely entertaining sport, and wish that there were more circuits around. Reckon I should get my eldest (now 8) on a track - he seems to love speed and the adrenaline rush.

Neck braces can be a hidden foe, although helping him at this time, by the time he is older, he wont have built up any neck muscles at all, so if he then doesn't want to race with one as they are very restricting, or he forgets it one day, he will struggle badly. Best to build them up now, even if you do go onto getting one in later life. I do however agree that looking behind a) forces you to lose concentration and b) gives the person behind an incentive to lunge you at the next turn - big no-no!

Just to let anyone know they all where neck braces and lightweight helmets and as i said really only spending time in seat at moment and do max of 6/7 laps at a time then all he wants to do is pick at his pack lunch ! then out again but thanks for all intest and concerns

Would just say he was at a birthday party last week and i was worried about him been on the bouncy castle than been in his Kart !!

They let my three year old on the little karts at Mercedes Benz World. I was surprised they let him and although nothing compared to the things that your 4 year old drives, it did surprise me how quickly he got used to the idea of the brake and throttle and even steering, when he wasn't grinning at me and not looking where he was going, ie straight into the inflatable barrier.

Hi yeah thats what has supprised me when he first went at the begining of September it took him 68sec to do a lap now already in the low 30s and thats just letting him get on with it as you will know the attention spam is 2mins long all he knows is the brake the accelerator and how to steer the rest he just picks up week by week on his own
