Do you think the points system should now change with more teams entering F1, maybe something more like moto gp and points for teams further down? as only top 8 of 26 is quite a small amount for points.

Discuss.

I've felt the points should go further for some time, even without the new teams.

If you look at the last few years there have usually been 2 (or more) front running teams - so the rest are then fighting for 2 - 4 point paying positions (and generally the lower scoring points positions) - unless one or more of the dominating teams has a problem... does not provide much of a reward for all the guys working hard in the other teams.

Clearly winning/podiums should carry a significant premium still, but a wider throw of points would be a good thing imho.

If they were to switch to more points would that not make a situation such as the 2009 season even more 'split'... If someone wins a few races and they get say 25 points, its still going to make it damned difficult for any of the trailing teams to catch up when they're still scoring baby points at the bottom?

The other side of this, if they were to reduce the gap between points so as no-one can accumulate points too quickly eg. 10 for 1st 9 for 2nd 8 for 3rd etc - its going to lose the attraction of really gunning for a win.

IMO the biggest issue to be rectified is the penalties dished out being consistent throughout the season - regardless of who commits 'the offence'.

I always think winning should be rewarded though, and 1-2 points isnt enough, i think 5-10 points.

1st 25points
2nd 18points
3rd 15points
4th 10points
5th 9opints
6th 8points
7th 6points
8th 5points
9th 4points
10th 3points
11th 2points
12th 1points

Not perfect but rewards winning, and podiums.

8. 1

there needs to be an incentive for the win and 2nd place with a points difference increase

points for pole would onlywork if overall points were higher. 2 or even 1 is far too much

Hmm; But with the current lack of incentive for winning it would improve the gap of getting pole + winning the race to +4 points over 2nd? In the old concorde agreement teams got paid on quali as as well as race results.

Or go for:

1 12
2 9
3 7
4 6
5 5
6 4
7 3
8 2
9 1
10 0.5

+ 1 point for pole

points for fastest race lap

points for 'best overtake'

points for best crash

oh, and don't forget . . .
points for most 'for sures' in an interview

Have a points scheme for qualifying, then reverse the grid, then have a points scheme for the main race. Would certainly spruce the race up!

You do need a bigger gap between 1st to 5th in points similar to Moto GP. Stops drivers settling for lower places as it is only 1 point per place. (except 1st to 2nd!)

I think the system is pretty good as it is but 1st should always be the most important position so should be as many points as 2nd and 3rd combined, thus:

1st = 14
2nd = 8
3rd = 6
etc
etc

I like the idea of points for fastest race lap as it would give drivers an incentive to go as quickly as possible whatever their position in the race, rather than 'preserving' the car or 'settling' for a place. I also agree there should be a bigger gap in points for a race victory.

Or we could have no system at all.

But that would be pointless.

I was going to suggest exactly this....

A point for pole is excessive. The pole sitter already has a significant advantage by virtue of being fastest.
The whole qualifying thing isn't quite right anyway - it's setting the race up for a train/procession by putting them in order of qualifying. Don't know a way around this, but it'll be worse than ever next season with no fuel stops, just tyres.

Same points system we have right now, but for quali and the race so pole and win = 20 points, pick starting grid out of a hat?
