Who's your favourite no. 2 in F1? Discuss.
Discussion
A random topic based on something that came to mind because of a post on another thread.
I suspect most of you will be like me and have other drivers you like/support other than your favourite. Just wondering if it's varied or if there are drivers that are widely loved by all but not necessarily a common number 1 choice to support.
So, who is your favourite ever no. 2 (as in your second favourite driver not no. 2 status within a team) and why?
For me my favourite no. 2 was Mika Hakkinen - I will never forget the Portugese GP '93 when he replaced Michael Andretti at Mclaren and qualifying nearly half a second quicker than Senna (widely regarded as the master of qualifying). I felt he was quicker/better than his 2 world championships ever suggested and the only real challenger to MS at his peak (awaits flaming from DH & FA fans)
Also - I'm interested why you all support a particular driver, is it ability, personality, likeability, driving style etc.?
For example, my favourite driver was Michael Schumacher, I was a fan before he was successful and just felt he had the potential to do well he also entered the sport around the same time I started to watch with interest (perhaps related, maybe some of you will be similar), I could have chosen to support an already popular driver/choice like Senna/Prost/Mansell etc.
Sorry for the length of post and thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my ramblings and contribute to the topic.

Well Hakkinen was only number 2 in that year.
If it is just limited to years then Id say Gilles Villeneuve to Reutemann in 78 due to his all- or nothing style and his drive at Monza that year.
No, I just mean your no. 2 driver of all time, it is coincidence that they were around at the same time and I don't mean if they were no. 2 in a team, sorry for not being clearer. If it is just limited to years then Id say Gilles Villeneuve to Reutemann in 78 due to his all- or nothing style and his drive at Monza that year.
Thanks for the response though and explaining!
Favourite number 2 has to be Alonso, I loved watching as he got blown into the weeds by Hamilton at Mclaren
Seriously though.... Herbert and Coulthard always seemed to play second fiddle in the teams and I guess I just watch out for the brits in whatever team/car they're in. (Eddie Irvine being an exception as he was just an angry aggressive t0$$er most of the time).
