I didn't know that Flav owned the Spanish TV rights. There must be a million other deals like this going on beneath the murky F1 waters..

How can CVC 'Seize the tv rights' from Flabbio?

Cheeky monkeys. I might just 'seize' them from CVC.

No preferential treatment there then from Bernie!

I wonder if the action Mosley took against Flav is intended to cover the Spanish TV rights too? Not sure if their remit could stretch that far, but if so it would appear that Mosley really did have an axe to grind against his "friend" Flav, with whom he claimed he could have a perfectly normal dinner despite calling him a Loony. I would think that it probably would strengthen the argument Flav would have if this form of income was also restricted to him.

Not suggesting that we should feel sorry for Flav, he is hardly going to struggle financially in the future unless he has been incredibly reckless with his money. But I would love to see him expose the seedy world in which Mosley and Ecclestone have been operating and further discredit both of them.

Always admired the guy a little despite his critics. I'd like to read his autobiography more so than Bernie's or Max's.

Yes! I'm hoping he fails in this court thing, then the gloves might really come off. OR if he wins the court rips the FIA a new one, but I think a nice bit of italian revenge would be better viewing.

They didn't "seize" anything: that's just stupid tabloid-speak. Stacourt bought the rights for just 7 years, starting in 2003.

Team principle for Renault
Spanish 2 times WDC driving for Renault
Team principle owns F1 Spanish TV rights
Team principle is personal manager and boss to the No 2 driver.

So absolutely no conflict of interest there. Nothing could POSSIBLY go wrong... rolleyes

And indeed it didn't; all parties concerned made a lot of money and nobody lost out smile

I'm not actually sure I agree with you. I don't believe Flav did anything wrong; he simply exercised the influence he had in order to achieve the result he wanted. This is the essence of business; it is just less usual for be in a position to actually do anything about it.

I sort of agree.. he took his business and profit to the limits of the governance model and rules that were in place at the time so probably dubious morally, but not illegal.

(though the instigated crash may have technically illegal in the country where it happened but let's not dig that one up)

My point was more that from an outsiders perspective the conflicts of interest would not pass basic probity and integrity tests if compared to more open and transparent sports.

Don't get me wrong, Flav is a huge character and we need them in F1 (most dodgy things have been done in F1 many times before smile ), but I think you can have big personalities and slightly improved transparency across the sport from where we are now.

No problem with entrepreneurs owning TV rights. Buy it, put it in a blind trust.

I don't think team principles should also be the manager for their driver. The drivers manager is a friend and useful arbiter (even better if they are an ex driver - eg Brundle)

Any autobiography on all 3 will be incredibly selective and not even slightly honest though.

Spanky won't come out and admit to all the details of his seedy sidelines. The dwarf will probably just babble on about a load of old tosh, and Flabbio would just discuss his various conquests over the years.

Yep, sorry - just checked BBC which suggested decision on Jan 5th 2010.

Cant see him getting away with it to be honest, and as much as Im no fan of his, I would like to see the FIA get bitten back for a change.

I don't suppose any of his writings would include what models girls of questionable age got up to at his parties though. (Not that any wrong doing was ever proven I understand)

While Bernie and Max are pretty seedy, Flabio is hardly a world away, and I don't imagine I'll ever want to admire them.

There's a sort of biography of The Bolt called Bernies Game. It would make you cringe!
