I really do think this is a dangerous route to head down for a sport where, in the main, fans are interested in the sport rather than a particular team. Their appetite for paying for something which has always been free is likely to be less than, say, for a football fan who has followed their team since they were knee-high to a grass-hopper.

If you also factor in the fact that a reasonable proportion of the current audience are not ardent motor-racing fans, the take-up for PPV or even subscription channels will be pretty small.

The previous attempt provided interesting features, but at a price and convenience level which wasn't of interest to a lot of people.

Would I pay to watch every F1 race ? No, but if it was PPV I might watch some of the potentially more interesting ones - Australia, Monaco, Brazil. But if they're expecting people to shell out good money to watch races like Abu Dhabi then I would expect the coverage to come with complimentary dancing girls and a case of beer !!

Will it kill F1 ? No, probably not, but it will reduce the audience in what has always been a core market for F1.

PPV will not work because advertisers want free to air coverage as do 'on car' and 'on track' sponsors. Teams value their spaces via a complex time on air equation and PPV would destroy a very good global sport on TV.

Bernie has long ago failed to grasp what TV does for a sport in the 21st century, ie no live web broadcasts and no behind the scenes or HD coverage globally.

The investors just want to pay back their bond owners and until F1 is sold lock stock and all to a major entertainment company it wil still not realise its full potential.

PPV does work but on stand alone events, not on season long championships.

An F1 channel with soem serious lifestyle pieces, real 'behind the scenes' documentaries and more business information could work, but would have to be broadcast via the web on all paltforms and via all carriers.

We have had PPV in the UK - it was the best F1 coverage we have ever had.

F1 was also on free to air.

His old PPV channel was wicked. But it only got like 10k applicants? Useless.

We had data channels, 12 camera feeds etc...was awesome. There just arn't enough real F1 fans out there tbh.

Fine, if it stays free to air and the UK doesn't get charged twice what anyone else was charegd for the PPV.

The point is value for money, which PPV F1 wasn't, so it bombed.
