Renault is understood to be looking to sell its Formula One team, and there are two potential buyers in the frame.

After a season of controversy and poor results for its F1 team, Renault's executive committee met in Paris yesterday to discuss the team's future. A board meeting next week will officially decide the F1 squad's fate.

Current front-runners are Prodrive - said to be the favourites of the F1 team itself - and Genii Capital, a Luxembourg-based investment fund.

Although Renault F1 personnel are said to be keen on Prodrive boss David Richards' experience in motorsport, the Renault board apparently favour the Genii proposal, as the team would carry on with Renault branding for two years, despite Genii taking control of the team.

The sale of Renault F1 could throw the driver's market into a whirlwind once again, as Robert Kubica - who is currently signed for Renault - has potential get-out clauses should the team be sold.

I wonder if the Renault board has considered the impact on their brand if they sell the team to the investment company, which with no history or expertise in F1 are likely to fail to be anywhere near the front of the grid.

I seem to recall some chap in the know on here was confident that Renault F1 would not continue beyond 2010.

He did say it was worth a tenner bet that they would be gone.

Good, great for the sport getting them out. Fed up of the scandals, now we can have a clean season, if Merc get Schuey that means they wont have to spy either.

What, are you serious? Do you not actually think that all the teams have cheated at some point to get ahead. How about you think about the poor staff at Enstone who could be out on their ears at Christmas.

Renault have done great things in F1 through the years.

I think its pretty exciting that there are more "private" teams entering the fray , Apart from Merc An Ferarri are there any other for next year ? maybe they might start employing drivers with personalities ? or is that going to far ?

Renault have done great things in F1 through the years.

I am sorry for the staff that may loose their jobs, but Renault F1 have been at the heart of 90% of the scandals for the past 3 years.

AS those who have visited Enstone will know,it's a nice compact facility with the emphasis on engineering and with the recent investment in CFD,it's even more attractive. Now if Symonds can negotiate a suspension of his ban (as I think he will) the team's going places.

Only the team is up for sale, not Renault leaving F1, as they've said they want to continue in F1 as a engine supplier.

Would it be Prodrive or would it be Aston Martin that David used to buy the team? Prodrive have wound down a large proportion of their operation in recent years, it's not the motorsport engineering powerhouse it was, i suspect it would have to use someone else's money to buy into the team, never mind have the funds to develop for 2010.

Lets not forget Prodrive decided not to enter F1 fairly recently when they had the chance, because they couldn't afford to do so after their customer McLaren deal was put the kibosh on via Williams enforcing the Concorde Agreement.
