Discussion
The usual he said-she said thing, but i find the following interesting
"Briatore should be the last person to complain that the FIA has not treated him fairly," wrote Mosley. "The FIA has repeatedly given him the benefit of the doubt.
"It did so when prohibited software was found in a car under his control, again when a component was removed from his team's refuelling equipment, again when his team failed to declare properly the purpose of a particular suspension component and most recently when they were caught with information illicitly acquired from another team."
Now is Max referring to the Mass Damper here? Because the way that was banned was to say it was an aerodynamic device, not a device that was there to affect the suspension (the tyres undamped oscillation to be more precise). The whole premise of the Mass Damper ban was to state that it wasn't a suspension component, but an Aero device, so has Max dropped a clanger saying it was a suspension component? Or was there another incident i am forgetting he is referring to?

Wasn't that common knowledge? I thought the following is Max really digging the knife in:

This was never delt with....but Mclaren were 'mercifully' given a $100,000,000 fine by max who said recently he wanted to give them a 2 year ban."It did so when prohibited software was found in a car under his control, again when a component was removed from his team's refuelling equipment, again when his team failed to declare properly the purpose of a particular suspension component and most recently when they were caught with information illicitly acquired from another team."

Amazing yet as with many things max, unsurprising that he claims the sudden and questionable banning of a component previously approved by charlie whiting to be an act of kindness to the affected party. The difference between lunacy and eccentricity can be measured in £
He refers to the Benetton violations of '94 and how the WMSC gave Briatore "the benefit of the doubt", but Mosley conveniently omits that he himself met with Benetton's solicitor the night before the hearing and coached him on how to circumvent the WMSC's most probing and harshest treatment.

I hadn't heard that coaching story before, thanks for mentioning - be nice if some future FIA investigation nullified Benetton's results from that year retrospectively but then the results don't have any value anyway.....Edited by dom180 on Friday 18th December 20:19

can't wait for somebody to grow some b***s and write a book.....
there must be enough for at least 3-4 volumes....
DEREK there must be enough for at least 3-4 volumes....

These behind the doors dealings and, as he has now admitted, favouritism to Flav with regards to such things as the McLaren technical information - where it infiltrated the team's computers, unlike with McL (sory, couldn't resist) - and the launch/traction control are all well known, both then and now.
Who would buy a book that tells them what they already know? No one else would be interested as Mosley is nobody now. He was only someone because of his position. Once that was torn from his grasp he ceased to be anything. Very few people were interested in Carmen's revellations with regards to the hearing over the doctoring of the fuel rig despite the implications of corruption. It was history.
The thing is that no one outside the sport really cares. And now Mosley is someone whose name people used to remember, who gives a damn?
What I want to know is the stuff that hasn't been explained. Why the handshake on the steps of McLaren HQ with the hated Dennis? How was he forced into that? Had there been an agreement beforehand that RD should step down, as was widely reported? What did RD bring up to frighten Mosley away?
Why the sudden change from salivating over Ferrari, even to the degree of having a model of the car on his desk for a photo, like some pimply adolescent trying to look cool, to suddenly going all out to remove them from the sport?
Todt will, I am sure, distance himself from Mosely in the coming season. His mentor is yesterday's man. All these statements to the press - they are hardly interviews - just to fill space only reinforce that fact.
I've only glanced at the article - I've seen it before so many times - and although I didn't find the reference, I bet he mentions still being in the senate. Very sad, at least from his point of view.
I find it remarkable that, now he's gone, I can't really be bothered to think about him. He's ruined WRC, WTC, WSC and maybe even F1. Todt, for all his previous selfish behaviour, might bring it back from the brink. We can but hope.
Renault did, at least, outlast Mosley and we can say of the former that they left some magic memories, the first turbo being particularly exciting. I'd much rather write a book about them. They at least did something for the sport.
I had a bit of a laugh at Flav's response:
Flavio Briatore said:
It is difficult to ascertain whether Mr Mosley is just losing his temper while waiting the decision to be issued by the French courts or if, after having lost his position as a key person in Motor Racing, he is just eager to regain media coverage by making provocative attacks against myself, amongst others.
