But in the early to mid 80's whilst Nissan was struggling with the R31, BMW, (635CSi & E30 M3), Volvo, (240 / 260 GLT), Jaguar (V12 XJS), and Ford, (XR4Ti & Cosworth), all enjoyed success with Euro spec models. CAMS didn't mind because it brought variaty to the show and their home grown V8's could still be competative.
So, to answer your question / statement, the answer is no.
Not watched them recently, I've seen V8s live at F1 support races in the past.

put them up against just about *anything* European, they would loose badly (as they did against 2L supertourers).

point is, the audience for V8 is not educated race followers, they are tribal, your either a Ford or Holden man, end off, what the reality behind the cars/racing is meaningless.
you only have to look at the beer limit introduced for Bathurst, can you imagine this in any other motorsport event in the world? (unless you include NSACAR, the same formular with the same knuckle dragger audience)

At Phillip Island a couple of months ago, Jason Bargwanna banged into Lowndes as target practice and Skaifey went mental on Bargwanna's driving standards.

I agree that there are far to many FWD cars racing in europe but surely you can see how managed the V8SC races are?! The safety car is over used and you often see a car spin off and get stuck in the gravel trap only to appear back in the race after another safety car period. The V8SC business is something that would make eccles cake and the spank proud!
V8SC is obviously used heavily by Ford and Holden in their marketing but the race cars do not contain any production parts, heck Ford are not even allowed to use an engine sold in Australia! The rules dont even allow any other manufacturer to enter.
Sorry but V8SC is nothing but a flashy circus where good driving talent goes wasted in the name of spectacular tv footage and a stage managed drag race to the finish line on the last lap. To a casual motorsport watcher it would look great but there are few die hard motorsport fans who watch the series and believe the hype.

I work in the business as a mechanic and have lived and breathed motorsport since the day i was born. I quite enjoy watching the v8 supercars when I realise its on.

This thread was started by someone alerting everyone that there's some motorssport on the tv and has since been taken over by a load of motorsport snobs trying to justify why we shouldn't watch it.

Nobody is saying you should not watch it, that's rather up to you isn't it?Sad part about V8 in Aus is it monopolises all the money in motorsport there to the cost of all the rest (a complaint made by Aussies themselves)
