Silverstone F1 Race 2010 - New Circuit?

Hi

Does anyone know whether the new circuit changes will be in place for this years GP?

As I understand it they are going to delay making a decision about that until the new section is completed. I think it'll be a couple of months before we know for sure

As I understand it the major circuit changes have always been for the MotoGP. I think F1 will use their normal layout.

That sounds to me like changes to the current circuit in terms of FIM required saftey upgrades and spectator facilities paid for by the guaranteed income from the F1 and MotoGP but no change to the track layout for F1.

The important bit;


"(Richard) Phillips said Silverstone is looking at using the new 'Arena' circuit for F1 next year.

"The FIA have been to see it, it has been submitted for homologation and we hope to be running on the 'arena' circuit next summer. If not we can run on the current circuit."



Which suggests to me that the hope is to have F1 run on the new circuit if it is at all possible.

Nah. After several (specator) laps for the circuit, the MotoGP layout was clearly complete by the time of the 2009 British GP. They didn't use it then. It's also blatantly to divert the bikes from going through Bridge and to dramatically slow Woodcote. You couldn't have bikes going through those sections at full-tilt, there's not enough run-off for it to be anything other than a death trap waiting to happen.

The Circuit mods are not complete (don't think they have been started yet) Though I think you're probably right about cutting out Bridge for safety.
